I'm day 4 of assumed RSV since they don't test for it. No covid or flu. I'm 61 and don't recall this being a thing. Maybe we just thought it was a chest cold before. Chills and absolutely no appetite, no sleep are the worst of it.

Sweated thru the bedding last night so hoping that was the fever breaking. Still not much energy but really don't feel that bad now. Food still sucks. Forcing myself to eat.

I'm in really good shape so it hasn't been that bad but I see why the older folks are getting the vaccine. I was wiped out.

The 20 something I caught it from on New Years is already over it. My BP and heart rate still elevated.

Does anyone know a magic potion to speed this up?

My resting heart rate is high 40's ( very proud of that at my age!). Yesterday still in the 80's, 70's today.

Man I got **** to do. Is more time my only answer?

Why are they assuming RSV? Could be any number of viruses. Sounds like you got tested for COVID/Flu?

Regardless, assuming nothing else is going on (like pneumonia, or something else), then yes, just need time. There are a bunch of home remedies/supplement concoctions that people swear by. Some probably help a little, but at the end of the day your body just needs to kick it.

Yes tested for the others. Breathing normal and hacked up what little was in the chest. I think a chest cold or Pneumonia wouldn't have resolved so fast? Urgent care doc said most likely RSV because of the symptoms. Also said just what you said, it could be any number of viruses even other flu stains they do t test for.

Way better today except for BP.
Don't think I've had fever all day. Heart doc buddy told me to stop worrying about the BP and heart rate. So I feel better about that. Interesting he said that a 6 foot 200 pound man that BP at 140 / 100 isn't necessarily high. I found that interesting and we'll discuss that more.

I was at 160 / 100 at urgent care. And I take Benazapril. Kind of freaked me out. I don't know how I made it this long without know your body does that when sick.

First illness since Xmas Covid 2022. So pretty lucky I guess.

Glad you're getting better.

Agree with your heart doc buddy. People get scared about transient increases in blood pressure. They did a study years ago where they hooked people up to arterial lines and tested their blood pressure when squatting, deadlfiting, etc. Their blood pressure was north of 300 for squats and 400 for deadlifts, I believe. So transiently going up to 140 will be fine.

Data shows that the lower the BP, without getting dizzy or lightheaded, the better. But This is over decades. High BP does damage over years and decades if uncontrolled. It's not uncommon for old ladies to get so obsessed over their BP that they randomly wake up at 2am to check it, and then notice it a little high, and get scared, which causes it to go up more, and the cycle continues, till they come into the ER scared. But really there's nothing to do in the ER for high blood pressure, unless you're experiencing symptoms associated with it. But that's a complete tangent.

And you're correct, a pneumonia wouldn't resolve so quickly, and almost always requires antibiotics. What's interesting is pneumonia used to be a very lethal diagnosis. Now, unless you're immunocompromised or very elderly, just get a prescription for antibiotics and go on your way. At least until antibiotic resistance builds up to where you'll need to come in for IV antibiotics. Yet another tangent.

Also, I think zinc lozenges actually are one home remedy that does have some evidence behind it.

Thank you so much! Your explanation of the BP gives me some comfort.

Just went out to pick up some Chinese food and it wiped me out. Not there yet. I'll try that zinc.
