Hearing a lot these days about magnesium supplements. Any thoughts? If positive, which type do you take? Any thoughts on proper dosage for a 40 yo male?

I do 100mg magnesium glycinate with 12.5 to 25 mg zinc nightly before bed.

I think there may be an advantage to as much as 200mg magnesium, but I prefer to slightly under dose my supplements and get as much from natural sources.

Both zinc and mag can support testosterone if you're deficient.

I had been dealing with depression for a couple years. Really didn't want to be on meds. I read good things about magnesium glycinate so I started taking it.

I noticed a change within just a few days of taking it every night. My mood has been much better. I feel much more calm during the day and I sleep so much better at night.

I'm back in the gym in the mornings and have been going strong. I really think the supplement helped me get out my funk tremendously.

This is what I take. 4 capsules at night. There may be better brands, but this one works for me so I haven't changed it up.

I take optimal magnesium by Designs for Health. it's glycinate and another type. Glycinate is the one people start with to help with sleep and relaxation at night. Not sure I feel a drastic difference but I will continue to take because it's not expensive.

This is a drink mix I'll usually have towards the end of the night, maybe 4-5x per week. It's pretty tasty. Lasts about 3 months, so not the cheapest option. I just enjoy it as a drink and often mix some flavorless collagen+ protein powder in with it.

As a side note speaking of dosages, I'm getting some blood work done to measure nutrient and mineral levels, so I am curious how magnesium will show up.
