Rather than walk into a mattress shop and get swarmed by sales folks, I was curious if this board had any personal recommendations. I've got buddies that swear by their Sleep 8 systems, Sleep Number, etc.

My only hard requirements are being able to split the mattress so I can sleep on an incline (if it's a heart burn night). Temperature and firmness settings are a bonus.

Thanks

We are pretty thrilled with our sleep science split King from Costco. Cheap compared to most out there but we love it.

My ex wife has our old temperpedic. Loved it but it was increadibly hot. I think they got that fixed.

Love my sleep number even more. Bought it when I left the ex. It has a split setting for firmness - one on each side. Figured I might want to share my bed again and I didn't know who I'd being sharing it with so I thought it would be best to get something adjustible. Wife upgrade loves it as well. The only thing different I would do would be to have the split adjustment for head raise, etc. Wife up grade wants it flat. I like a little elevation on my head.

We recently got a beauty rest world class in medium with a pillow top. Wife has knee and back pain , and I'm a side sleeper . It's been perfect for both us and they're reasonably priced .

If you're in Houston, this is the place to go.

https://www.oursleepguide.com/

They have the most popular online mattresses that you can actually try in person. When it comes to buying one, you can have them place the order for you or you can just do it yourself. They offer some discounts if you forgo the return in XX days offer buying direct from online retailer. Otherwise, you'll get the same discount available to online only customers.

We ended up with a Helix after trying everything in the store.

There's a whole world of DIY mattresses. A mattress is pretty simple to build and you can build it any way you want. A guy in Fort Worth sells premium springs for the foundation to DIYers.

The biggest downside to DIY is that you may have to try a whole bunch of different comfort layer combinations until you get something you like. Many of the better comfort layer retailers don't allow returns, so you can spend more than a few dollars tweaking your setup. You still usually pay considerably less than you would for a commercial mattress with equivalent components.

We have a split king Sleep Number. I didn't like it at first because the covering on it was weird feeling to me. Felt kinda rubbery? Put a topper on it and man it is great! +1 for the Sleep Number. My number is 60

Thank you for sharing. I had been curious what your sleep number was but wasn't sure I should ask.

I'm usually at 35. I like it soft, sometimes I go down to 30 or up to 40 for a little change.

Thanks for the link. I've been wondering about some of the online beds and always been hesitant because of the online nature.
