Curious if anyone here might have an informed opinion on the benefits of these types of "recovery" devices. I've used one a couple times at a PT and it was pretty cool, but I know that model was really expensive and not what I am looking to spend. I also didn't use it enough to determine if it helped.

Specifically looking to target my calves which have given me increased issues, mainly with nocturnal cramping. Between weight training and being at my adjustable sit/stand desk I feel I could use something like this.

A couple options I found:

I have the Hyperice, both for my legs and the one that does your hips/lower back.

It definitely feels amazing while you're using it. When my lower back is locked up, the one that I wear on my hips definitely makes a huge difference in loosening it up.

As to the legs one, I think it helps but I can't say it's enough for me to definitively say it's a miracle worker for recovery. But it feels great and is super relaxing to the point that it usually puts me to sleep so I consider it worth it.

We have hyper rice and it does boost my recovery. Especially after weight lifting or a hard work out. We love it

When I have hard bike/run days, my legs get pretty restless from the efforts and sleeping can be tough that night. Any of yall experience anything similar and do the boots help?

I have a handheld gun, but wondering if something more substantial would help

My mom always had leg cramps at night. She started drinking a sugar free electrolyte beverage every afternoon and the cramps went away. We buy these 50 packs from Amazon.

I take magnesium in the evening for that specific reason. I used to really struggle with restlessness at night on hard/long days, and I believe the magnesium has helped. Pillar Triple Magnesium is the product I use. I know there are cheaper options out there, but I trust the place I buy it (The Feed) and am willing to pay a premium for that.

I also have used compression boots three to five times per week longer than I've taken magnesium. The boots help me with relaxation (just the rhythm of the air pump is awesome to me), and I believe they help with overall recovery. I didn't notice a difference in the restlessness when I started using them consistently, though.

I take magnesium as well. Thorne brand.

In general, I've seen positive benefits, but it's on days where I really push my legs past their comfort zone that sleeping that night can be tougher because the muscles just don't fully relax

I use Transparent Labs ZMO (zinc, magnesium, and some oyster thing) for sleep and it has helped me tremendously with falling asleep and staying asleep.

Thanks for sharing that. I am going to try it out and see how it might help for a couple of months.

Consider this another plug for an electrolyte supplement addition to your routine!

Make sure you consider maintaining a balance between sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, etc. An imbalance too far one direction could cause issues.

Tried the leg and hip ones yesterday after leg day at the gym. They felt pretty good. The hip one felt a little weird at times, and a few hours after my lateral hip muscles felt a bit sore, but better today. Didn't feel like it did anything for my back.

I think they'd have more benefits after a long run than after leg day, but I'm sure some benefit is there. I wouldn't purchase it if I wasn't a distance runner. I think manual massage would yield much better results. Though that will also cost more if you go to someone.
