Looking for my 22 year old daughter as I feel like she stresses about too many things and too often. I battled it as a young adult too and I don't want her to go down the same road and not enjoy her 20's and 30's.

I figured this would be the response. She has one and is very strong in her faith....needs help putting some of that into practice.

If that is the case then I highly recommend this one. I initially read it last year to help encourage a good friend of mine, but it definitely impacted me. Probably the best book I read last year. It is an abridged version of Burrough's book, "The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment."

It is very short and simple.

It can be a little tricky to get a hold of, but there is a e-book option here.

She may already have this - but something I've found that works is mentorship/counseling (not professional, but that's helpful too)

I'm speaking of someone older than her, at least one or two life "seasons", whom she can confide in, express her stress/anxieties in a safe place.

Stressful thoughts tend to multiply when they are left in the darkness. Simply having a place to speak them can make a big difference.

Praying for peace for your daughter.

+1 on MisterJones advice

The Bible is the great book AND it can be helpful to have a small group or discipleship to walk through life situations with.

Alternately (or in addition), a great therapist.

It's unlikely that reading a book is going to address worry/stress (anxiety?) that also appears to be genetic

I wholeheartedly agree that the Word of God should be primary (for us all). Secondary to that, what I've personally found helpful to mitigate stress is confidence, which comes from preparation and experience, so any books that help prepare her for those triggers should be helpful.

Think Good by JL Gerhardt.
I used this book to teach a Sunday morning ladies Bible class a few years ago. I (and many of my friends from church) love the writing style of this author. She's relatable and not "churchy" or "judgey" if that makes sense.

I also agree with what others have said about having a mentor, therapist, or coach. Anxiety can be very isolating, so realizing she isn't alone in this may be helpful.

Hope she finds some calm and peace soon!

I don't have a book recommendation as I haven't finished it yet, but my pastor recommended Building a Non-anxious Life by Dr John Dell. It is in my kindle library to read sometime this year.

For me, my stress came to ahead back in 2019. I had returned from being deployed for over a year. Being state-side, I was still running at that same mental state to the devastation of my family. My wife one day finally said "we were better off when you were deployed." That lead to me getting a few counseling sessions.

Those counseling sessions attacked the biggest issue that was causing me stress, being addicted to my work. The biggest thing my therapist did to help me was tell me that I was replaceable at work and that work will never satisfy me. I was running the hedonic treadmill.

Since then, I have several things I do to keep my mind focused.
-I have scripture verses on my desk. One of them being See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. (1 John 3:1) important to me that if even the things that stress me out "win," I am still a child of God, loved by the Father.
-Exercising regularly. When stress gets too high, I hit the road walking. But I also am doing cardio 4-5 times/week and strength training 2-3 times/week and that helps.
-Christian meditation. I'd like to do 10 minutes daily, but if I get it once or twice a week, that is a step in the right direction.
-I have a group of guys that I meet with on a regular basis. Usually weekly. We can share our stresses, reassure each other, and share wins.
-I still go to therapy monthly, though now to focus on other issues like PTSD

Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman is a great read for her.

Man's Search for Meaning is also a classic book that she will find worthwhile as well.

The Daily Stoic has a journal that is a good practical tool for thinking about what you can and can't control. It helps you practice that mindset daily.

Regular exercise, healthy social activities, etc., help.

Whatever you do, try to avoid medications at all costs (especially benzos). The stop gap relief they provide will only compound the issues later.
Life's an endless party, not a punch card.

In addition to the Holy Bible and the Daily Stoic, I'd add (in no order):

1. Any book by Epictetus.

2. The Power of Now by Tolle.

3. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Wasn't there a book, "the Subtle Art of Not giving a F***"? I never read it, but this thread reminded me of it.

As far as medical stuff- exercise and sleep are better than ANY rx for anxiety and depression.

Consider a trial of Nature's Way Calm Aid- pretty good evidence it works

Consider omega 3 fatty acid supplementation. Some evidence it helps with adolescent anxiety/depression.
