I need to schedule a consultation and labs with a rheumatologist here in Austin. The shortened backstory is that I have a recent IgG4 diagnosis from a lacrimal gland removal, and then I have a longer history of generalized but undiagnosed autoimmune-type things. The recent diagnosis, testing it further, and putting a treatment plan together are the most important things, but the history also needs to be taken into account.
I realize that's a lot of words and that what I'm about to say is all subjective, but I would really like to find someone who is going to take their time and explain things in clear detail along the way. I have a very anxious history with healthcare, so my world is already sped up just walking into the office. If the provider is also just getting through appointments as quickly as possible, I end up getting buried.
I also realize that putting all that may make it feel like giving me a recommendation is loaded, but that is not my intent. It's just to be really transparent about the whole situation in the hope that I can find someone who is a good fit for my needs.
