This has been brewing for several years now, but it's time to have the surgery, probably next month.
Any ophthalmologists here, or people who have had this combination procedure done?

The cataract/lens replacement procedure is pretty routine and the recovery is relatively easy. Fuchs involves a partial corneal transplant and requires that you lie flat on your back, looking up for 3 days (with 15 min breaks every two hours at first).

Experiences, thoughts, complications, advice would be appreciated, in particular how the recovery went and how long before vision normalized. Doc says because of the corneal transplant, the new lens will be for distance only, and I'll still need correction for reading and intermediate distance.

my mom had the transplants done a couple years or so before Covid, around her 60th birthday. She had each eye done at separate times. No complications. Doesn't really wear glasses anymore, no problem watching tv from across the room. Before the surgery, she had set her iphone at the largest text size, and carried a magnifying glass in her purse (I mainly saw her using it for restaurant menus).

If my rememberance of high school biology and punnett square, Im pretty sure I've missed out on it (it's a recessive gene). Although I'm near the age that she started noticing symptoms and found out about it.

Thanks for sharing your mom's experience, sounds like it worked out very well for her. Hoping for a similarly successful outcome, even if glasses are still needed.

just talked to mom. The only thing she experienced that was negative, was having bad headaches. She already will get bad headaches, and these were worse.

Thanks 4231, I'm not looking forward to the first week of recovery, but it'll all be worth it in the end.
