I've been in PT for both my neck and my back for a couple of months now. My neurosurgeon consult suggested dry needling on my neck, to be done by my PT. Has anyone had this done? Anything to be concerned about in the neck area?

I've had it done several times on my neck and upper back by aggiederelic in Austin. I really can't recommend it enough. After the first session I literally could turn my head all the way to the left for the first time in two years.

My only experiences with it were with aggiederelic. It definitely didn't give me any immediate resolution to anything, but was part of a multi-week regimen. I did feel a little better after each session though. Definitely nothing negative to say about it. The biggest thing was, I always felt extremely relaxed afterwards. Like I could have fallen asleep pretty easily.

I've had it done by a PT on my shoulder and hip. Hip was part of rehab after hip surgery. Found it pretty helpful releasing tension / tightness.

The neck responds well to dry needling. Obviously safety is first and foremost. A thorough understanding of anatomy is a must but PT's are well versed in that.

I use smaller needles for the neck compared to the low back and hips and we don't needle the front of the neck obviously due to blood vessels in the area.

If you are in the Austin area looking for dry needling, I would be glad to help.

Thank you that's helpful. I think I have some hesitation with my current PT. Super nice but it's a family owned practice and I'm just not sure he does dry needling that often. He's certified, but I want someone who does it frequently. I'm in the North Texas area or I would definitely come see you in Austin!

Thank you, not gonna lie I'm worried about the pain of it. I've heard stories.

Where in north Texas? I'm in McKinney and found a pretty good PT in McKinney that has helped me, and that included dry needling.

I'm in McKinney as well. I think you replied to me on my other thread about disc herniation… you were going to PT Concepts? I'll check it out. I've been going to Active Life PT.

Yep, that's right. I couldn't remember who had asked previously. But if you're looking for someone more experienced in dry needling, you might give them a call.

I had dry needling done for Achilles Tendonitis and it helped almost immediately. Recommend.

It's really a nice tool to speed things along. Glad it helped your Achilles tendonitis.

I've had a PT use a softwave machine for tendinitis /bursitis and other such issues and when i get a low back strains and I tell you what it really helps.

I haven't had him use it on the traps and around scaps which is where I normally get dry needled but I need to try it !
