I recently listened to a talk from a Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle Practitioner + National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. One of the many things that were referenced was ionized/hydrogen rich water. Of course they are a distributor for a very pricey machine to DIY your own at home, and of course their specific machine is "the" only one to buy. Aside from the MLM-ness, seems like an interesting concept with antioxidant-rich water.

I'm interested to hear from anyone that's actually used this kind of water. Lots of testimonials & anecdotal stories, however not so much peer reviewed stuff that I've found.

Machine they were repping is the Kangen, but Google says there are others that are cheaper.

What sayeth the all-knowing Texags?

The same could be said for modern medicine/health insurance. Care to elaborate?

For starters, the pseudoscientific claims of the chemistry behind "alkaline water" are bunk, and given that your stomach is a vat of acid, drinking something alkaline is not getting absorbed as such.

If you're of a mind that "modern medicine is a scam" I don't think further discussion would be fruitful.

Would water with extra H2 be alkaline? It should still be neutral, no?

No dog in this fight otherwise.

Totally agree on the alkalinity vs stomach acid front. The human body is excellent at buffering.

So, form that standpoint, are all antioxidants a scam?

Is it H2O2, or is it H2O with some H2 bubbled into it? Cause neither sounds good to drink or a good idea to sell to the public as a drink.

Health insurance is a scam.

Modern medicine is not.

That being said, most anti-oxidants work at the cellular level, getting into the blood stream and often working as a cofactor in a natural body biochemical reaction. I am not a biochemist, but I suspect that H2 works invitro, but I am not sure there is much evidence that it works invivo. Have you tried finding evidence that it can survive the stomach, and intestines, and make it into the blood stream, and reach cells in the body?

I did find this, which suggests it at least reaches the liver. But was not detected in the carotid. Which means it could potentially help the liver. Not sure if that's the goal or something else is claimed. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8591508/

Two guys walked into a bar.

The first one told the bartender, "I'll have some H2O."

The second one said, "I'll have some H2O, too." He died.

This was an interesting meta-analysis, as it relates specifically to humans. Much of the research I've seen looks at animal studies. While useful, human studies are way more relevant.

The molecular hydrogen institute has a lot of linked studies, but they're also invested in promoting their interests. https://molecularhydrogeninstitute.org/scientific-studies/
