My dad lent me the book 1776 and now I am hooked into reading more details about the whole war. I'm looking for something that lays out the history, motivation for independence, battles, some strategies on both sides, key turning points, etc.

Anyone on here have any good recommendations?

Thanks. I did a search, but only looked back 6 months. That'll teach me.

Not exactly this "I'm looking for something that lays out the history, motivation for independence, battles, some strategies on both sides, key turning points" but see if you can find one written by Joseph Plum Martin (I think that's how it's spelled). It's his diarys as a Rev War soldier.

Jeff Shaara has a couple of books on this. They're fiction, but entertaining.

And as far as the fiction part, generally I don't find many problems with the facts in his books.

I'm looking for a good book about the Second Continental Congress. Any suggestions, let me know.

Just reading this one for the second time.

It's very good for the history and motivation for independenc, but isn't a "battle guide". It's a very good read.
