Jefferson was odd in a number of his beliefs (particularly about the economy) and a walking contradiction, but he was extremely intelligent and a brilliant thinker.

As for the French Revolution, the underlying class, economic, and demographic dynamics were vastly different than in the colonies. However, the elites who led the first revolution (the Tennis Court Oath, the Declarations of the Rights of Man, etc) drew heavily off of the philosophical arguments made in our Revolution. Recognizing where cultural differences existed, they proposed a government very much like the British system.

We didn't break away from the system, we broke away from how the system was being run to the detriment of the colonies. Pretty much the same way the Confederacy felt about the system, it was a good system but those in charge were abusing it.

And then we created a new system.

Yeah taking away slavery was a real abuse.

A difference should be recognized between the system of the metropole and how the colonies were seen and governed.

I always knew that Hamilton and Jefferson didn't get along, but HOLY BALLS they really hated each other. And Chernow has done an exceptional job of making Jefferson (and Madison) seem like a colossal ****.
Hamilton deserved it. He was a vain arrogant guy, very much like Benedict Arnold, only he stayed on the right side. The only person who specifically had a provision in the constitution written to keep him out of the presidency. And for good reason.

Hamilton and extramarital affairs. I am thinking it was kind of expected back then.

All of this suffered in comparison to Hamilton v. Burr.

Wrong. Hamilton was a citizen at the time of the adoption of the Constitution, so he was eligible to be president.

I'm a Hamilton fan. Read Chernow's Washington biography. Washington leaned on and trusted Hamilton, especially in his second term, more than any one. I'll defer to Washington.

Hamilton was erratic but incomparably brilliant.

edit: And, I might add, he was reliable with the ladies!!
