I have a problem with some of Dan Carlin's podcasts. I go somewhere and listen to the podcast and when I get there I'll just sit in the car for a few minutes while I continue listening. Work, store, home, etc. I just have to pull myself away. Only have 19 minutes left in the latest one and I know I'll be in a slight funk when it's over.

Halfway through episode 5.
I happened to catch his "explanation" the day it came out. I was surprised to learn his dad or step-dad was on the Essex during the Korean War--I might have to try and make sure he knows about her and her air groups' contribution in the last year-and-a-half of the war: it was unmatched by any carrier of any nation, especially for the Okinawa campaign...JABQ04 said:thach said:

Just listened to 5. He said it would be 6 total. I enjoyed it. I even found a couple of new thoughts/perspectives in the series.

Dan Carlin put out a Hardcore History Addendum this week. If you haven't listened to these, they're good but different. In then he interviews someone. In this one he interviews Malcolm Gladwell about his new book Bomber Mafia.
Anyway, In the Addendum he mentions that he's working on Supernova in the East 6. He said it's going to be a huge episode.

It definitely was interesting, I listened to it last weekend and recommend it if you're into any of WWII/Air Force/Warfare history (which I assume you are if on this board).

Really like his content as all others have mentioned, but it's quite annoying to be listening at a normal volume and suddenly Carlin is nearly shouting into the mic. and blows my ears off! I mean, it's one thing to emphasize something, but he's taking it a bit far.

FWIW, I just sent a message to see if he wants to include information about his dad's (in Korea) and my uncle's (in WW2) ship, and it's incredible cruise off Okinawa--the greatest combat cruise of any carrier in history. Heck, Essex had arguably the greatest combat record of any carrier in history.

Ghosts of the Ostfont (Eastern front in WW2)
Wrath of the Khans (Genghis Khan through a couple of heirs, doesn't really get to Kublai)
Punic Nightmares and Death Throes of the Republic (both about the Roman Empire)
These are all fantastic series that are well worth the $1 per show. I use an apple phone and it's pretty easy to buy the shows on his website and download them to your phone.

If I had to listen to just one of his podcast series, it would be Blueprint for Armageddon, hands down. It was eye opening and great to devote more in depth learning and thought to WWI than I had before.

First I was going to say stop posting on this thread because I can only take so much rejection. Then I saw your post and searched on my podcast app for apple and didn't see it, so naturally I was heartbroken. Then I looked up Dan on Twitter and he said (about an hour ago) that it was released. So I'm happy again. Hopefully the apple podcast app has it up soon so I can listen to it driving home from work in the AM.
Listening now. So good. 30 minutes in and already have food for thought.

I just recently got into these and finished Supernova V about a week ago, so I'm spoiled. I'm going to go back and buy the older stuff.
Did the statement he made toward the beginning about the Japanese invasion of China leading to the victory of the Communists there strike anyone else? It really made me think about how both WW1 and WW2 very well could be the root cause of global imperial communism.
