I read it years ago. My basic take away is that it's nice and accessible, but the thesis that you can divide American settlement into cultural hubs as Fisher does is very problematic and starts to fall apart under scrutiny. I also have problems with some of his sourcing. I tried to mine his footnotes for some research of my own and never actually got to a primary source. I got to a lot of secondary sources that were of questionable scholarship. Nothing too major to his arguments, but enough that it raised my eyebrows.

Can you elaborate a bit more on this point? I've not read the book, only the reviews after reading your comments, and would like to know more.
