This is a press release from the University about 15 Aggies who were added to the memorial. I was a little disappointed the article talked about the process of expanding it, but it didn't give any detail on how these men were discovered or anything about their backgrounds.

So will that change the number of flags flown at Kyle Field?

I saw a story that had a picture of a marker showing someone killed in August, 1919. So I'm assuming that this is something like people who died of wounds after the war who were certified later on as being war deaths, even though they died months after the armistice.

Maybe the Siberian Expedition in 1919.

IIRC, there was once a large plaque at Simpson which explained that the field and its trees are an enduring memorial to A&M students who gave their lives in WWI.

In recent years that plaque has been relocated across campus to the the Corps Quad entrance.

The relocation makes no sense to me as it separates the memorial's two key elements - the field/trees and their explanatory plaque - which makes it impossible for visitors/students to understand that Simpson is a war memorial.

I have emailed John Blair at the Bush Library and Ashley Drake at Texas A&M Today to find out how these 15

Ags were found. Also, have asked why Norwood was include since he died i 1919 in Haiti.

Easterwood, of Easterwood Airport, died in 1919 in Panama, and is considered one of the original 52.

Perhaps the criteria of the time was being a WWI vet who either died during the war, or in the service, soon after?

Drunken negro? Do they mean a fight, or a car wreck, or what?

I realize this was 100+ years ago, but still odd.

EDIT: Found it in your link. A black private was drunk, the Aggie killed when he tried to disarm him. He previously survived a truck accident and aerial bombardment. Tough SOB.

Guess it depends on who does the compiling. More on this later.

Interesting. I had never heard of Camp Scurry in Corpus Christi before now. Looks like it was a pretty short-lived outpost.

No reply to email.

The Korean War Memorial at the Capitol in Austin required that anyone to be named had to be KIA.

This ruling left off guys like Norton (Country) Higgins '48 who was awarded TWO Silver

Stars for Bravery but who died when grabbing a grenade dropped by a Korean trainee

behind the lines!
