What's everyone's favorite work of his? I am partial to the Panama Canal (The Path Between the Seas).

One of my favorites. He also wrote about the Johnstown Flood. I still re-read Truman. And his interviews on television were always great.

I'm 3/4 of the way through my first reading of Truman now. Spending my evening with the book seemed like the right way to mark the day.
Thanks and gig'em

His book on the Johnstown flood doesn't get enough attention. I find his Revolutionary / Early Republic stuff his weakest writing.

While I have yet to read some of his more recent works, I'll agree with the OP that The Path Between the Seas is my favorite. Aslo want to add that he was an excellent narator for documentaries such as The Civil War and the PBS show The American Experience in which I first introduced to him as a historian.
