I saw this release last Friday.
I thought a few here may find it interesting.
Jocko discusses the Civil War in what looks like a 7 part, approximately 9hr series.

Edit: sorry for the huge Spotify link. You can probably find it anywhere else you listen to podcasts.

Interesting so far, very basic overview of the war. I'm only in the 2nd episode but the guest says "you know what I mean" way too much.

Agree on the know what I mean comment.
I'm hoping Jocko or echo said something to him about before I get much further into it.

I listened to this whole series and loved it. Great color commentary, imho, without the usual dry history. They are going to do another series it sounds like on other theaters.

Here is a totally unrelated but actual recording of a Virginia veteran of the war via youtube.

Yes, it was definitely still engaging, but it was more of an overview (with good commentary on motivations and addressing their background in an accessible way) and less focus on leadership themes throughout, which was disappointing. Leadership studies of Lincoln, Davis, and some of the major generals just in their narrative form vs. a chronological history approach would be a very interesting topic and I was hoping to hear something from a point-of-view I hadn't considered before.

I think it is very difficult at times without the visuals or without actually walking the battlefield, but would have been nice. It wasn't dry at all, but wasn't the next level of discussion that you actually get when you have a purpose-driven visit to those battlefields.

A pretty good overview of Buford's perspective/mission in this campaign.

The movement north/information the commanders had toward Harrisburg to Cashtown-Gettysburg etc. is fascinating.

Jocko did a podcast a while back that was pretty gut wrenching to listen to. Had to do with "McNamara's Morons".

Very tough listen but invoked some images from Forrest Gump etc. Makes you hate LBJ even more.
