Fun part of the history: New England Puritans refused to celebrate Christmas until forced to treat it as a holiday by James II. They still refused public displays, but a growing number of royally-aligned Anglicans in Boston acted in the traditional manner.

Judge Samuel Sewell, best known popularly for his role in the Salem Witch Panic, was also a detailed diarist and he noted watching two drunken men in bright outfits engage in a sword fight on the streets. So, enjoy Christmas the traditional way: with drunken debauchery.

There's actually a fair amount of historical evidence that Christ was born on December 25. The OP's post is rather in the nature of an urban legend.

BS? What is BS about the history of Christmas? I had never heard of this stuff.
