I've recently found notes from my grandfather the he was stationed on a small island "near Manila" with the 7th Fleet repairing ships. He apparently worked in a foundry. In the notes he referenced the island of "Mani Cani" but the Google box doesn't return any meaningful information. Any help is appreciated if someone is familiar with this area of the war.

I also have a great uncle who fought in Okinawa with the marine raiders (again, from my grandfather's notes), so am looking for book, article, etc. recommendations that might shed light on that particular battle.

Manicani is in Leyte Gulf. Closer to Samar than Leyte.

I've got a hand written recollection of the Battle of Okinawa from my grandfather. He was in the 96th Infantry Division during the battle.

It's also how I ended up with a Japanese Nambu
