I can't keep enough books in front of my 10 year old daughter. She just flies through them so fast so I'd like to find some more stuff for her on American history or history in general I guess. She's already read the Rush Revere book series several times and enjoyed that.

Here's a picture of her as a little tot to show books have always been an obsession for her.

Staying up late and reading/looking at pictures by flashlight as a 7 year old.
Time Life Civil War Series, Bantam War Books and Squadron Books are the way...

A book about the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania. Sallie is actually depicted on their Gettysburg monument sleeping on the base. Fortunately, as a child's book, they don't carry the story to the actual end. Sallie was killed in action around Petersburg near the end of the war.

Here is a photo of the real Sallie and the basis for her image on the monument:

Oh I see now that is an old picture, get her this then:

Also recommend the Col. Red Reeder histories of the Revolution, War of 1812 and Civil War. Those are probably only available through the thrift stores now but they are good.

The Magic Treehouse was a series I quite loved when I was younger. Plays a little more into the fantasy side of history, but is great at showcasing major historical events

Harold Keith wrote Rifles for Watie after he interviewed Civil War vets for his thesis at OU in the 1920's and incorporated those stories into his novel. That was my favorite history book in elementary school. I'd recommend it.

She may still be a little young now, but as she gets older, I would recommend some of James Michener's books, like Texas, Centennial, etc. Although not history as such, they cover a lot of history and bring much of it into better focus.

Wow, there's a book I haven't heard of in a loooong time. I think I read that in 5th grade, definitely recommend unless I'm forgetting some things.

Along the lines of the Stand Watie book, Irene Hunt's Across Five Aprils is a good historical novel too.

I remember reading "Alamo Soldier" and "Cannonboy of thr Alamo". My 10y/o son reads a series called "Great Battles for Boys" (I know you have a girl). Also he's read the "I survived…." Series. Of course when I was his age I was reading Shelby Footes series….
