Napoleon is finally defeated for good at Waterloo. Approx 200,000 men engaged with just over 50,000 casualties.

Picture is one, if not the moment, that saved the day, that shows the Coldstream Guards forcing the gates of Chateau Hougomont closed after the French manage to get them open and briefly breach the interior.

One of the most awesomeness paintings ever depicting the event. Absolut brutal combat and shown that way in the movie Waterloo.

I had the Airfix Chateau Hougomont and thousands of 1/76th Airfix Napoleonic soldiers as a kid. Spent days setting them up, moving and battling with dice. Still have them in a box somewhere.

Bernard Cromwell has a very solid book on the whole thing; Waterloo: The History of Four Days, Three Armies, and Three Battles.

And of course the 1970 film with Christopher Plummer, which kinda embellishes but is surprisingly accurate. Also used thousands of extras from the Soviet army. Easily found on YouTube in full.

Haven't seen the Cornwell book, although I live his Richard Sharpe series and probably read them all once a year. Huge fan of the Waterloo movie as well.

The moment that saved the day was when Bluecher arrived, in my opinion.

Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon' Unveils Epic Battle Scene at CinemaCon

During Monday night's Sony presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the studio revealed the first footage ever of Ridley Scott's epic from Apple Original Films. Directed by Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, Napoleon stars Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader Napoleon Bonaparte. The feature is notable as it signals Apple is serious about entering the theatrical space, which is welcome news for theater owners.

Hope it is better than his Gettysburg fiasco with the History Channel but that still in the article doesn't give me much hope.

And in reply to Aalan , Waterloo is full of what-ifs and failure points starting with rain the day before and Napoleon's dysentery, Hougamont, La Haye Sainte, Ney, Grouchy a bunch of failure points.

If Ney didn't let the British withdraw from Qautre Bras?

BQ78, agree. I do think what's amazing at Waterloo is not that Napoleon was beat, but how damn close he came to pulling it off.
