Visited this battleship today in Yokosuka Japan. Only surviving pre-dreadnought battleship in the world.

Met a retired Japanese Navy Captain on the ship and we discussed Mikasa and Battleship Texas. He was very knowledgeable about the Texas. Really nice guy. He played Togo on the Mikasa in the History Channel program on the Japanese Navy.

Said Admiral Togo stood at the very top helm during Russo-Japanese naval battle exposed to the elements. Did so because he was too short to observe from the protected helm.

This ship is fully encased in concrete.

I was watching one of the drydock Texas YouTube episodes and they mentioned that the concrete has caused significant damage to the ship. Googling around it appears they even filled the ship below the water line with concrete. Oof.

They were discussing various methods of "display" and there seems to be a lot of debate about the right one.
Pulling it completely out of water, which I used to think was the best option, really doesn't sound that way to me anymore after watching that video.

Awesome. I have visited Mikasa 3 times in the last 10 years (I'm in the Navy). It's a cool site. Great to see your pics.
