First time posting on the History board, usually an OB or H&F guy. But, I had to go meet a landowner in Virginia last week. I had no idea the type of place she lived in before I got there.
Turns out this place was a pretty central location during the Civil War. Its near Brandy Station, Virginia/near Culpepper, not all that far from Fredericksburg/Richmand and so on.
A lot of the major players were there at one point or another during the war and the current owner was nice enough to give me a tour.
The current owner is not fond of treasure hunters coming out and digging up the place given that there are a lot of bodies there and some in unmarked graves. She did show me the one shadow board that she has of some relics, and the drawing posted above indicates that all of the trees were gone at the time of the war.
The state of Virginia has offered to purchase the place and give her a life estate. She and her two sons are undecided on what they are going to do with it, but I'm glad I got to see it before its either in other private hands or it becomes a park.
Enjoy.
