The 76 hour battle for Tarawa began. My dad, by now, had been wounded and evacuated off the beach and was back aboard ship. The tour group I have traveled with is there for the 80th anniversary with a trip to Butaritari (Makin) as well. I wanted to make another trip there but at the time I was making plans for the trip, you had to be vaccinated to go there. So, I will just have to look at photographs from prior trips and watch some YouTube videos about the battle instead. I do wish I was there though!
