Turns out there were lots of different ways of holding elections,
rules have varied quite a bit, but the winner has always been the guy with the most votes.

My favorite election in Texas was in 1952 when Democrat Alan Shivers beat Republican Alan Shivers.

It's interesting that even though the urban/rural divide is just a huge deal today, it doesn't show up on the map until Harris (Houston) and Dallas counties voted for Obama in 2008.

That's very interesting. I wonder what conclusions, if any, one could legitimately draw from that?
