When I was a mere child in the 60's a book came out titled "The Violators: No More Bugles in the Sky". IIRC, the protagonist and his partner flew F-105's.

It was somewhat heavy reading for a 5th grader. Book took place in Vietnam. The CIA created a civilian Air Force to coerce China into the war. At the end the two heroes fly into China and take on over 300 Chinese MiGs!
