I'll take that deal.

Didn't see this mentioned much, everyone seems to be intent on grumbling.

Finally, the insider said based on the new deal with Arkansas (of which Jones is an alumnus), the Razorbacks are willing to give up their regular season-ending contest with LSU so the Aggies and Tigers can meet on Thanksgiving weekend in coming years — although that's not a done deal.

Many folks on this board would complain if they got hung with a new rope or if we one the NC but didn't crush whoever we played.

Would be much better IMHO if I had not seen that "but it is not a done deal" put in there. Too much like that may have been put there to quiet the masses.

Oh well, we can't reclaim the past so it is time for Florida.

adding another 4 years to the Jerryworld series should not have been part of the deal.

just finishing the original contract should have been fine (7 more games)

so what's in it for Arkansas? why would they allow us to take their spot on thanksgiving without AT LEAST extending the Jerry World contract.

I could get weird with that

Exactly. Some of you don't live in the real world. And I believe it's only three years added.

I do believe it was more important to Arkansas than us to have the game in Dallas, but I can assure you, there are LOTS of Aggies in DFW that are not at all upset by this. We can still have six at Kyle Field and another in Texas guaranteed every year, and in addition, looks like we might get the Thanksgiving game we really want, and the money ain't bad. That's a great swap in my opinion, lots of value for us.

Yeah I would be ok with this. 6 home games, another in Texas, and a marque thanksgiving game. Sounds good

this LSU thing is gaining a lot of momentum, and t.u. has just GOT to be squirming over the whole deal.

If we get Thanksgiving back, I really couldnt care less about playing the 'sips.

There is a huge population of Aggies in Dallas that I know love having an A&M game once a year locally. It may not get the media attention like t.u.-owho? gets, but maybe in time it can turn into that. Hopefully the Thankkgiving deal works out too. That's an awesome end of the year matchup.

I am altering the deal. Pray I don't alter it any further.

Looks like Arkansas will also get a yearly game at Arrow Head. Probably Mizzou. You will most likely get your Thanksgiving game! Fine by me! As far as you all not wanting 4 more years at Jerry World, keep in mind your coaches can add " oh by the way you'll get to play there at least 4 times maybe more with the Champions Bowl, Cotton Bowl, oh and it'll be against a name school on national TV". This will matter!! Especially if you really do want to recruit nationally. The game at Arrow Head would give us 2 such games! These sound like the concessions Coach Sherrill mentioned earlier.

We agreed to 3 more games than the original 10, and we got to take a 2 year break to avoid having a 5 game home schedule this year AND we get LSU on T-Day/T-Weekend.

I'd say we came out just fine in the whole deal. The moran posters calling for Hyman's head are acting upset because we are going back at all; they don't even realize that they are only getting a few more games out of us up there.

They seemed to think that we could simply walk away without any reprocusion (seems to be a pretty American tune their singing), and that Hyman had anything at all to do with it.

I know I shouldn't praise the Texas/OU game, but the natural rivalry between the two states plus the tradition of the game during the Texas State Fair are just a great combination that's all but impossible to replicate.

Arkansas/ A&M could become a great and attention grabbing rivalry if we can up our game to the SEC contender level, but I don't see how we ever build in the kind of tradition that the State Fair gives Texas/OU. I like Jerryworld as a stadium (I seem to be in the minority) but it's in a pretty sterile surrounding environment.

Now, if they ever do the development between The BallPark and Cowboy's Stadium that was originally planned, but the economy nixed, then it could really improve.

Not to be a nerd but it appears we added 4 more games to the original contract, not just 3.

Original deal was 10 games total at Jerry world, correct?

Already played 3, now playing 11 more from 2014 through 2024.

As far as the who plays who at the end of the year; it is hard for me to believe the hogs control this. Yes they can state what they would like but if both LSU and A&M want this change, 2 beats 1. I doubt us adding the 4 games had anything to do with our game with LSU. More to do with Jerry being a good negotiator, OK you want a 2 year break; no problem as long as we bump the total games from 10 to 14.

Keep in mind Jeff Long was recently named as one of the 10 most influential people in NCAA sports. He can't give this game up without some major concessions! Our Fan Base would turn into a lunch mob! It might anyway.

That's Lynch!! Lunch mob sounds good too. This switch can be seen as a move up for the SEC. A marquis game for A&m, a game at Arrow Head. You all will see it really is about what moves the SEC forward and upward.

I'm somewhat confused by this. I've seen it stated that we are playing "beginning in 2014 through 2024", but I've also seen it stated that we "signed a 10-yr extension, beginning in 2014", the former of which would imply 11 games starting in 2014, the latter implying 10 games. Either way, my opinion doesn't change on the whole thing.

That's probably because you're used to the Big 12. In the SEC, decisions aren't made unilaterally, and they aren't made to negatively impact one team (even if it's only a perceived negative impact) without compensation. Arkansas has a "history" of playing LSU at the end of the year; I think the game even has a trophy (the Golden Boot). Arkansas also typically uses this as one of the games in which they play in Little Rock at War Memorial Stadium, which they have to do twice a year I believe (one of which has to be a conference game). There are also constraints on what caliber opponent they have to play there, and I'm sure timing is a factor as well, so there are a number of issues that Arkie will have to balance by moving their LSU game. They may not mean **** to you, but they are factors nonetheless. Moreover, when you are in contract negotiations trying to get the most beneficial terms possible (for Arkie, this means the most games in Texas), you will exxagerate just how impactful the LSU move would be.

It's not as simple as LSU and A&M = 2 and Arkie = 1; it's more of a precendence/neutrality issue within the SEC as a conference. This is just part of the reason why they are the best conference in all of collegiate athletics.
