Per Texas A&M Athletics:

SNYDER RELIEVED OF HIS DUTIES AT TEXAS A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas
— A&M head football coach Kevin Sumlin announced today that Mark Snyder, the Aggies defensive coordinator, will be relieved of his duties.

"Mark is an outstanding coach and an even better person, but he understands the production needed to be better on the defensive side of the football," Sumlin said. "We wish he and his family all of the best moving forward."

Snyder came to Texas A&M in 2012 when Sumlin was hired as the head coach in Aggieland.

"I appreciate the opportunity Kevin Sumlin gave me to come to Texas A&M and to work on his staff," Snyder said. "I have been in the business a while now and understand it is a production-based business."

"With that being said, I have no doubt Coach Sumlin and the coaches and players will get the job done here," Snyder added. "There is a great commitment to success in Aggieland and this community has been great to me and my family. I am proud one of my daughters has an Aggie Ring and will graduate from this outstanding school."

"I look forward to the next opportunity to coach and wish Coach Sumlin and the Aggies all of the best moving forward, Snyder said.

Sumlin also stated linebacker coach Mark Hagen will serve as the interim defensive coordinator as the Aggies prepare for an upcoming bowl game.

One down, one coordinator to go. How we field defenses at the same level as northwestern, kansas, Vanderbilt among others is embarrassing. Get out.

I agree we needed a change, but Mark Snyder is a class act.

I think everyone agrees Mark Snyder is a great guy and a class act. His schemes were not successful. I wish Coach Snyder and his family the best.

He is indeed a class act and will undoubtedly land on his feet as a coach very quickly. He will be a great asset to a number of programs. But if UT can field a competent defense full of texas kids that swarm to the balll, then we surely can in the southeastern conference. Our defense has been nothing short of embarrassing the past two seasons.

Something that had to be done. Best of luck to Coach Snyder in the future.

Now relieve the guy who was carried by Geno Smith and JFF. His playcalling is atrocious.

When you consider what they had to work with and how each one delt with injuries/set backs as the season progressed Spav should be on a much hotter seat then Snyder. If Spav is still calling plays at the beginning of next season I will be severely disappointed, more disappointed then I would be if Snyder was still around. It would at least been interesting to see what Snyder could have done with a real SEC worthy depth chart, Spav already has one.

I love when people think that it was a scheme issue and that his defense was unique. Defense is like fine wine. Once it works, you don't really need to mess with it. You simply need the quality grapes. Our grapes aren't ripe and maybe the wine maker wasn't the right person running the vineyard, but it's not the process that is unique to a single wine maker.

Offense was worse than defense in this game.

I'm a wine maker and a wine drinker and that is probably the dumbest analogy that I have ever heard. I don't want a wine that is aggressive and hard hitting, nor do I want a defense with notes of blackberry or currant that is soft.

As the article stated...no real improvement was made this year.
Injuries, transfers, and suspensions are part of the game.
Someone moves out and quality replacement should be ready to go.
We have not been at the ready for the last 2 years.

Snyder's first season he had a solid defense. The last two seasons were a bad mixture of everything that could possibly go wrong and a number of starters who were more interested in being criminals. Injuries and a lack of upperclassmen talent plus a scheme that never caught on proved to be it.

The game agwinst La Tech in 2012 scared the hell outta me. We had some good moments and a good defense overall but even scoring to go up15 with 2 minutes left was not safe.

I don't say this to join the lynch mob but that was ridiculous. Equally ridiculous, and in Snyder's favor, was how the 2nd teamers could not stop SHSU.

A change was needed. Ranked worse than 100 in every defensive category out of 128 FBS teams will not cut it. However, I wish Coach Snyder all the best in the future. He is a class act. And congrats to his daughter for getting her Aggie Ring, well done.

Coach Sumlin needs to take charge and overhaul the Air Raid offense to include more rushing to complement the pass. Specifically needed are more faking, misdirection, and counter plays to counter act a fast pursuit defense like LSU and most of the SEC have. Even running the read option would help. We only had 2 first downs the whole first half. Mostly running bubble screens and flare passes to the flats. Our defense was on the field more than 20 out of 30 minutes because the offense couldn't pick up first downs to control the clock or didn't score to control the game.

I guess when you run out of teams to have a worse defense than, change is in the air.

Just pitiful. Look, someone has to tell me how it gets worse than 3 downs and punt. Ohh, I know run it in a hurry up offense. I'm just sick of hearing a kid call the players "kids". Spav should be fired if for no other reason he has the sidelines and goal line mixed up.
