Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • Stuff that we all thought was going to happen came through but maybe not in the timeline we thought. Obviously, Jahmir Johnson‍, Jordan Moko‍, and LJ Johnson Jr‍ we knew were coming to an end. Both Conner Weigman‍ and Hunter Erb‍ were sooner than we thought.

  • Knowing Conner, I felt like it was going Texas A&M's way without expecting a decision to come out. He's really excited and couldn't hide his excitement with A&M. He said, "Why wouldn't I go to A&M?" To get him in the boat as early as they did is significant.

  • I've seen Weigman since he was 13 when I first saw him on the baseball field. He's a different type of kid, and everything is slow for him when it's fast for others. There is a lot of crossover on the football field, and he plays the same way. Last summer, when he was playing up with Twelve Baseball, he was the best player in a lineup where everybody, 1-9, was a Division I player.

  • Weigman does not care that people are ahead of him here. He's ready to come in and compete. I would bet on him being an impact at Kyle Field and Olsen Field during his time here.

  • Weigman’s influence in greater Houston is important too. He was the right guy to get in this class because of his talent and what he can do to help you recruit in that area.

  • You've seen Weigman's ties to LJ Johnson, and they had talked about coming to Texas A&M together on the Sunday before signing day. They've worked out together. Weigman is also close with Denver Harris‍, Kam Dewberry‍, and others. He is already reaching out to others.

  • Hunter Erb is a four-star kid. Put that tape on. Weirdly, he doesn't have a star rating. He will probably start as a three-star, but the way he moves is impressive. The way he attacks the second level reminds me of Kenyon Green. His tape is excellent.

  • With PJ Williams‍, you anticipate him being a 310-pounder, but at 6-6, Erb is already there.

  • Speaking of two-sport athletes, Devon Achane is going to run for the first time this weekend. We know what Bryce Foster is going to do with track when he gets here. Fernando Garza‍ is going to pitch at Texas A&M. Conner Weigman will play baseball. Last night, Reuben Fatheree‍ became the first Richmond Foster player to surpass 1,000 rebounds on the basketball court. He could get minutes on Buzz's team. This kid is starting to look like an offensive lineman. His upside is through the roof. His entire family is all-in. The Fatheree family will be such a good addition to the Aggie football family because they'll support all of the guys.

  • It's hard to do a quick thought on LJ. It was a huge win. You can do big-game hunting in 2022, and you don't have to take one if you don’t want to. Still, you have a top-five player in the country with Rueben Owens‍ at El Campo who really likes you.

  • I'm going to write something up about LJ's recruitment because we heard things different from the national media, and our sources were spot on. We never heard anything other than "A&M is in the lead" this fall. Texas was battling, but we never heard anything else. There were talks that LJ made a secret trip to Austin, who knows. But I can tell you how many times he was in College Station. There was so much done behind the scenes, and he had a small circle that he was telling what was going on. When he was supposed to make that last trip to Austin, I know he was sitting in his bed in Houston.

  • When kids do not do a lot of media, similarly to Brian Thomas‍, who signed with LSU yesterday, that's fine. That's how LJ Johnson handled his recruitment. It was a lot different than people think.

Ryan, What are the chances that Connor goes in the first or second round in the MLB?

I would say pretty good if he was the already the best player in a lineup of D1 players. Hope not but I'm not counting on him once baseball flashes that signing bonus.
