Sports Sturm or Aggie Bob? Bob Sturm of Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket in Dallas joined Monday's show to share his thoughts on Jimbo and the Aggies heading into the 2022 season, the Longhorns, Sooners and more.

Key notes from Bob Sturm interview

  • Relegation can work. Do the guys that have the power or the most to lose, would they risk it? It would require rich and powerful people to give up their monopolies. In college football, it makes all the sense in the world. I would love to see two losing teams play in an effort to stay in the conference. I just want an 18 or 12-team playoff. 16 teams feels borderline. You can find ninth-grade me writing a paper on that. I’m all for a nice, big College Football Playoff.

  • I’m up for whatever. I'm certainly not the type of person that likes seeing big and small schools at the beginning of the season with a 37-point spread when it's 105 degrees out. I'm totally down for bowl games at the beginning of the season. Bowl games are fading. I do think college football has to move the ball forward. A lot of the boulders have been moved around and rightfully so.

  • I love the talent level at Texas A&M. It's as high as it's ever been, and injecting talent and great depth is happening. It's all about the quarterback position. You can mitigate that with all those five-stars on your defensive line and cut corners. I still need to see the quarterback move up to be one of the best players on the field. That's probably the last piece of the puzzle. I'm excited to be down there in College Station. This is a quarterback sport, and they need to make sure they are fortified there along with the rest of the roster.

  • If you are a critic of A&M, they have a comedy set ready with jokes. People default to 8-4 or the Alamo Bowl. There's no shortage of critics here or down the interstate at Texas. They feel like they have critics too. It's up to this program to point at the scoreboard. That's the ultimate silencer.

  • I have more questions about Ohio State just because I’m programmed to believe Alabama has all the answers all the time. As I look at the 2023 draft, there is Alabama again. Despite A&M trying to vacuum up all the five stars, Alabama is going to be themselves.

  • Arkansas has done a fantastic job of building a culture, finding a coach, the ethos and a physical style of play. I give Arkansas a ton of credit for putting the better part of the season together. They have the belief that they can go toe-to-toe with the Aggies. That's a big step. That will be a great physical matchup with the Razorbacks.

  • With Texas and Oklahoma, there are so many unknowns. They do have horses. Texas is getting their quarterback scene squared away. With Oklahoma, I assume they are putting quality out there. They've lost a ton of what they know. Oklahoma is one of the fascinating topics because your bet it is as good as mine. Baylor has made real strides in the Big 12, and I think Dave Aranda is one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the nation. Texas has a long way to go. They've been surviving off their reputation for long enough.

  • It was the Cowboys’ first preseason game. If you are worried about it, you should read a book or do something more productive. They looked horrible. In the end, it means very little. The rookies got a lot of action. They are throwing guys in the deep end of the pool.

  • My daughter being an Aggie has influenced my rooting interest.

Sports Sturm is awesome when he sticks to sports and doesn't venture into social issues or politics. The same could be said for all of the Ticket hosts.

I have assumed that he lurks around TexAgs now because of his daughter and interest in A&M football now. I like him too on the sports analysis side of things, but he needs to do us all a favor and kick Corby in the nuts for us.

I want to hear what Rhyner thinks. I also want to hear about the time he saw the Allman Brothers w/ the original lineup. Told them boys to stay away from motorcycles.

I would say getting the #1 ranked player in the nation both at qb and overall for the last two years is getting the position as squared away as you can. If you don't believe that, then you don't believe the Aggies are getting their qb situation squared away.

Do better and get someone with a pro Aggie perspective. Despite his daughters rooting interest he along with every other hack at the ticket is anti-Ag and more than willing to push that narrative forward.

No.

I'll agree with you on the other hosts, but Bob has been pretty fair. He's definitely not an Aggie sunshine pumper, though.

Guess you got to draw the DFW market somehow.

Bob is fair in his analysis. He is not a homer but is not a detractor. The rest of that bunch though are biased to the extreme.

He's fair here. On The Ticket I see him getting steam rolled all the time because of the station bias so sure he's fair overall but I don't see him as a net supporter for the good guys

The DFW Aggie fans are very well represented. Check out the Metroplex forum and the Ticket thread.

Haven't listened to the ticket in over 2 years since I don't commute anymore, but Bob was the best sports analyst on the Ticket back when I did listen. Corby and Craig are blowU homers all over. And they rarely talked A&M anything (Ticket-wide) back when I was a P1.

But Bob is pretty near objective as you can get for a fan of any degree. In fact, I often found myself hoping the other dudes would shut up so Bob could talk more. He, Norm and Rhyner (and George to a lesser extent) were the shi+

Yeah I will admit that was unfair on my part.

I've been a long time P1 after a summer internship in Dallas introduced me to the Ticket in '08 and I've been listening ever since, and being able to stream it anywhere and listen to the podcasts has continued to keep me tied in. While I do agree, most of the station does use A&M as a punching bag more often than not, the biggest OU homers on the station didn't even go there, and the t.u. homers also, didn't go there, but they all bag on A&M like they did. I appreciate Bob's views on the team as he is the biggest sports nerd on the station and doesn't just bag on A&M because everyone else does, but gives his honest take on the situation. I also can't stand when they have Joel Klatt on because he just likes to rile up A&M, and honestly, he's a BIG10 and Big12 shill that downplays the SEC because he works for FOX. I think he's been concussed one too many times.

Thanks for your insight Bob, hopefully he becomes a semi-regular contributor, and thanks for posting the highlights for those of us who can't listen to everything all the time right now.

Do you like your gig?

I don't mind that about Klatt. Klatt will also keep Corby in check. I remember last season during the CFP, Corby tried to bring up OU and Klatt basically said "No, they're not one of the four teams in the playoff so we're not talking about them"

Don't listen to the ticket but I enjoyed Bob's interview and his work with Dallas Coach's night. Would be a great regular guest during the season if you guys could make that happen. I may be mistaken but I think he played a little low level college basketball in his day so he might have an interesting perspective on A&M basketball in the spring.

He played high school basketball for a Christian private school with a carpeted gym. He thought he could walk on at Liberty University. He could not. He has referenced this several times on the ticket, its funnier to hear him tell it.
