Ryan Swope shares who 'got it done' in the Ags' win over Sam Houston
Texas A&M posted a 31-0 win over Sam Houston in Week One as the Maroon & White began the 2022 season on the right foot. During Thursday's edition of TexAgs Radio, former Texas A&M wideout Ryan Swope shares who stood out and who "got it done."
Key notes from Ryan Swope interview
- I loved how we attacked the field vertically. It's something we've lacked in the last few years. I loved Jimbo taking those shots down the field. I hope we see more of that. It's exciting. With the weapons he's able to recruit and get here, the more of that we see, it's only going to get better from here on out. I thought the receivers played exceptionally well.
- Personally, I'm pretty optimistic about this offense. This wide receiver crew just had its best outing collectively in years, and we're talking about moving on at quarterback? It doesn't make sense. Sure, there are things Haynes King needs to iron out, but I'm walking away with it being a positive. I think Haynes did a fine job, but there are obviously things he needs to work on. It's a process. Just trust it. I think Haynes is going to be a guy we enjoy watching. We're going to lean on his legs some too, and I think he'll get us out of some sticky situations with a questionable offensive line.
- It's fun watching some of the young kids go out and put on a show. It's hard to do that as a freshman. The question is can they do it consistently? Evan Stewart is a dynamic talent, and he's going to be special. Chris Marshall is another young wideout that fits the model. To have those weapons with Ainias Smith's senior leadership is fun to watch. Smith is all over the field and can do it all.
- Appalachian State doesn't worry me. When I was playing, we'd treat every game the same. You can only go out and do your job. This is a good football team coming in here, and they're a pissed-off football team. They gave North Carolina a run for their money. They can put the ball in the end zone, so you have to be careful. That first drive is going to be so important.
- Ainias Smith and the entire wideout crew got it done this year. I was excited to see some of those young stars emerge and make plays out there. I hope they can get it done day in and day out. It was fun to watch.
- Appalachian State's offense will struggle this week. A&M's defense is too good. It'll be a good week for our defense because they're going to get tested. I'm anxious to see how our defense comes out this week, but I think we're too good up front. I think App State's offense won't get it done.
- Ainias Smith will get it done this week. He's just so consistent. I love everything about this guy. He does everything for this football team, and those are the kind of guys you need leading your football team to win championships. I think he and Evan Stewart will have big weeks again on Saturday.
- I saw that we got a commit from Austin Westlake. When was the last time we got one of those? It's about time! Let's go Chaps, baby!
- I think t.u. has a rough outing against Alabama. I think it will be a long morning/afternoon on Saturday. We'll see what happens. Maybe it's competitive for the first half, but Nick Saban will go into halftime all pissed off. It will get out of hand. This is a good opportunity for Texas to resolidify its brand and its school because the last few years have been tough. It's never good when you're losing to Kansas.
