Another very tough week for the Texas A&M football program and those who follow it.
There is no other way to put it. I find it amazing that we are where we are at this point, and I am hoping with everything in my heart for things to turn around in the Bright Complex and on the field for these young men.
The news coming out of the locker room on Monday night definitely doesn’t help the situation.
On a positive note, the last time we had a group of players suspended before a game against a top-15 opponent at Kyle Field, we walked off with a win. Here is to us doing just that again.
This one will be short and to the point.
The slow starts by this offense are giving this football team almost zero chance of winning football games. I think this goes back further than this year, but I am just going to pick a few games and point out some pretty alarming results.
Sam Houston: A&M ended up winning this game, but against SAM HOUSTON, they started the game with a three-and-out, a missed field goal, a punt and an interception on four of our first five drives.

Appalachian State: A&M started this game down, 7-0, at Kyle Field... to Appalachian State... On their first two possessions, the Aggies punted and fumbled. Of A&M’s five possessions in the first half, four of them go for 13 total plays, 24 total yards, three punts and one fumble. A&M finished the game with nine first downs and 180 total yards.
Arkansas: Due to a freak missed field goal and one of the wildest turnovers for a touchdown I have ever seen, A&M was able to sneak away with a W vs. the Hogs. However, once again, the slow start by the offense put the Aggies’ backs against the wall as they tried to climb out of a hole. Their first four possessions resulted in 12 plays for a total of 13 yards, three punts and one fumble. A&M started this game down 14-0.
Mississippi State: The defense started the game against a Mike Leach offense and forced the Bulldogs to punt on their first three possessions. The Jimbo Fisher-led offense proceeded to go punt, punt, fumble, punt, fumble to start the game down 14-0. And A&M actually had momentum before a fumble in the red zone gave State all momentum back.
Alabama: Four punts on the first four drives after the defense got you the ball and held the Tide three times, on the road, with a chance to gain momentum and take the crowd out of the game. Credit to these young men and that talented defense for fighting their tails off and giving this team a chance to win. A&M came up short and missed a big opportunity.
South Carolina: A&M spotted the Gamecocks 17 points, on the road, after a bye week, against a team and a crowd that were looking for blood after never beating Texas A&M since our move to the SEC. The opening kickoff was returned for a touchdown. Then the Aggies fumbled and threw an interception resulting in two possessions for our opponent in the red zone. Five minutes into the game, the Aggies found themselves down 17-0.
It is almost impossible, especially in the SEC against very talented teams, to win football games, when your lack of production on the offensive side of the ball is this bad.
I don’t even want to write about it anymore because I absolutely despise having to point out negative things about this football team. I want these young men to succeed so badly. I want to see this program shine as much as anyone.
But it is hard to do that when the offense is having this tough of a time putting points on the board.

A&M last scored more than 25 points vs. South Carolina last year when the Aggies hung 44 on the Gamecocks.
That is all there is to it. ESPN noted that Texas A&M’s offense has scored less than 25 points in nine straight games vs. FBS opponents. The only teams with longer active streaks are Colorado and Rutger...
Something has to change. This is just flat-out unacceptable on every single level. Too many resources are being poured in. There are too many talented football players on this roster to produce that little. Only one person can make that happen.
And whatever the routine is before games that are resulting in these slow starts where they look lost and unprepared on the offensive side of the ball... Change them up, as well. Find a way to get these young men excited and ready, and put them in a position to go out and utilize their God-given ability.
Here is hoping that things start changing on that side of the ball and they move forward with another top-15 win against Ole Miss under the lights at Kyle Field on Saturday night.
Let me say this: I believe in these young men.
I believe that on the other side of adversity, we find out who we really are, we grow in strength, we grow in character, and we grow as people. More often than not, the times in our lives where we see the most growth is in the middle of the most challenging times and trials. This is a trial and a tough time. May these men that have been put in a place of leadership and shepherding of these players do all that they can to lead them through this and help it translate to bigger things off of the field for when they one day become husbands and fathers.
Don’t waste your pain. Use it to grow, change, develop and learn.
