How someone broke into Memorial Stadium in Austin and cut the horns out at midfield? I've been scanning old pictures for the past couple of weeks and came across this one.

After we beat the Whorns, my ride home stormed the field, so I followed. I took this pic of the horns stitched back in. It wasn't really very noticeable, but you can see the orange stitches on the right side of the image pretty clearly.



EDIT - The stitches are between the green lines. They're all but impossible to see on the left side.

I was at this game and it was very obvious from the stands as the entire field was old faded astroturf and the new horns cutouts which were massive at least 10 yards by 10 yards on each side were very very green new astroturf with fresh paint on them.

One day I will get invited to a party and be hushed to secrecy before I enter, upon entering these horns are on the barn floor and I will already know the story and drink my beer and just chill and not say a word except

BEAT THE HELL OUTTA tu!!!

I ran in the state track meet that spring and they were still there. I made a warmup run out there to inspect them myself. Fun times!

My dad told me about this. I think he was a sophomore at the time. He said that is when he really started to dislike the aggies. His fraternity planned out a "spirit mission" to get the aggies back. They got caught on the A&M campus defacing a statue I believe.

I was in the Aggie Band and got to witness it up close as well during early morning drill. One of the Seniors used his boot bottoms to etch "tu sux" into the freshly painted repairs on the 50 yard line horn.......GOOD TIMES!!

My dad and I drove from Houston to Austin to watch Aldine Eisenhower play in the state semifinals that year a few weeks after the college season had ended. I didn't know anything about sawing them off back then, but I remember people talking about it in the stands.

You can see the difference in the turf color at 43:23 in this clip.

On a night before the home tu game in 1985, my fish outfit stole the horns off of Bevo's bookstore after 6th street shut down one night. We also took an Austin City limit sign on our way back to CS, pole and all (break away polls had just been implemented in Austin). We were too nave to think we could use a real sign for bonfire.

On our return to CS, we were stopped by a highway patrolmen not far out of Austin. After seeing the goods in the bed of the truck, he looked us up and down, as we were all cameoed up with face paint and all. He stuck his hand inside the car revealing his Aggie ring and told us to slow down, as we had plenty of time to get back to the quad before everyone woke up.

To top it off, we were all sitting together at that awesome '85 game, with ESPN following us that year. Right behind me, I heard a female from tu say angrily, "yeah, and I can't believe someone stole Bevo's horns off the bookstore!" I turned to her and said, "yeah, it was all of us." She exclaimed with shock and a fake smile, "oh, that was awesome!"

I know, cool story and all...

Army, the stories don't change all that much generation to generation. I could tell a story about a shopping trip to Austin in November of '69.

When was Rev kidnapped? I recall she was taken from her handlers backyard in the Dallas area over Christmas break but can't recall the timeframe at all.

I think it was December 1993. She was a puppy who had seizures and needed medication. Seems like she was taken up in the Metroplex, and then when the sip kidnapper realized she had medical issues he arranged to return her to someone in Austin.

My old roommate and I ran out on the field after that '92 game. It was painfully obvious that the horns were new.

Like the poster above, I would love to go to someone's house and be sworn to secrecy and be shown the cut out horns.

His "fraternity" was on campus at Texas A&M in 2020, and we think we know your dad is a professor, still there and likes to eat chalk.

Bump to discuss the 1992 theft of their artificial turf horns and other horn-related vandalism.

I'd thought it was this thread, but someone on the Zoo has talked about being at a party and the missing horns being there.

Could have sworn there was a newspaper article photo that showed the horns missing. Nobody have a photo like that? Was trying to show this to my kids but no luck searching online
