Conner Weigman is taking his recovery process 'one day at a time'
After suffering a season-ending injury vs. Auburn, Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman is on the road to recovery. In an exclusive interview, Weigman spoke about his rehab process, what he has seen from his teammates over the last few weeks and more.
Key notes from Conner Weigman interview
- I’m good. Recovery is moving along well. I got out of the splint two or three weeks ago. I’ve got a cast on now, and we’ll get out of that on Wednesday. I can start doing some mobility stuff at that point, so I’m excited about that.
- The trainers are telling me we have to do every little thing and exactly how they say to do it. Taking it a day at a time is how I’m going about it, and that has been good.
- Being away from my teammates has been the hardest part. Being back out there on Saturday was cool.
- I’m there and supporting Max Johnson in any way possible. Whatever he needs, I’m there. I’m always around, and it’s cool to see how he has the guys going good right now.
- You have to put losses behind you. You watch the film from that loss the next day, and then it’s on to the next opponent. You have to put it behind you and start preparing for the team you’re facing that next week.
- I’ve talked to a bunch of coaches about their experiences when they were hurt. I’m learning the game not just from the quarterback position, but from every position. I’m growing my knowledge of fronts, blitzes and stunts. I’ve been focusing on all of that.
- Max Wright sat me down for a little bit with all the injuries he has had. He told me to get my mind off of football as much as possible, but when it’s time to start rehab, you have to attack it. I’m ready to do that beginning on Wednesday. I’ve done some hunting, and I recently shot a buck. I don’t want to get used to doing that during the fall, though.
- I like the quarterbacks at Oregon and Washington. The game Bo Nix and Michael Penix had against each other a couple of weeks ago was a really good game. I feel like I was in the eighth grade watching Nix play at Auburn.
- The frustrating part of this year is we know what we’re capable of. We know we have a good football team. We just have to show it. We have to put in a good week of practice and show it on Saturdays.
- The respect I have for Ainias Smith... He shows up every single day. He might have a little limp, but he’s going to practice every single day. Seeing that as a younger guy and as a leader of a team, that’s huge.
- I saw Edgerrin Cooper in the locker room today. He’s so cold. That dude is crazy. The screen play where he slipped through two blocks? Oh my god. I don’t think there is anybody better than him at that position anywhere in the country right now. He’s the same way as #0. He’s there day in and day out. His athleticism at that position is crazy. He’s good at everything. There is nothing he can’t do.
- Bryce Anderson is my guy. He means a lot. You know what he’s going to do. His consistency level is at a very high level. He makes plays at a very high rate.
- Shemar Turner will start barking at you as he’s running after you. He’s funny. I always give him a hard time because I’m in a green jersey and know he can’t touch me.
