Texas A&M adds former Stanford RB E.J. Smith via transfer portal
Texas A&M and Mike Elko welcomed a familiar name from the transfer portal as running back E.J. Smith announced his plans to transfer from Stanford to Texas A&M.
Smith, the son of Dallas Cowboys legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith and a standout at Dallas Jesuit, kept a close eye on the Aggies as a four-star recruit in the class of 2020.
He ultimately chose Stanford, and over the course of his four-year career, he rushed for 557 yards and five touchdowns on 109 carries and caught 59 receptions for 386 yards and a touchdown.
Smith’s senior season proved to be his most productive. He amassed a career-high 218 yards and a touchdown on 53 carries, and he had a career-high 242 yards receiving on 33 receptions.
His 2022 season was off to a promising start, but it was shortened two games into the season by injury. In two games, he recorded 206 yards and a career-high three touchdowns on 30 carries, and he had another 63 yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.
Smith is a graduate transfer and brings a versatile skillset to the table. He is the Aggies’ 17th addition from the transfer portal and provides depth and leadership at the running back position.
