Texas A&M-Notre Dame selected for ABC's primetime slot on Aug. 31
They are coming to our city.
The Mike Elko era was already set to begin with a bang.
Any time Notre Dame comes to town, expect a national audience.
And now, that TV audience will be magnified as ABC has announced that the Aug. 31 matchup between Texas A&M and the Fighting Irish will be the ABC primetime game, AND ESPN’s College GameDay will be in College Station to kick off the 2024 season.
“Our players have been grinding through off-season and spring workouts,” Elko said via a release. “Facing an outstanding opponent like Notre Dame will require that same type of effort and attitude each and every day to be prepared to play our best.”
The ABC broadcast is set for 6:30 p.m. CT with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on the call.
“We are extremely pleased that ESPN’s College GameDay, as well as the ABC prime time game, will feature Texas A&M and Coach Mike Elko,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Trev Alberts said via a release. “Our game with Notre Dame will be a great way to open our regular season.”
Meanwhile, GameDay will be coming to Aggieland for a seventh time. The last time the show stopped through the Brazos Valley was ahead of A&M’s 2018 matchup with Clemson at Kyle Field.
Host Rece Davis is expected to be joined by Lee Corso, Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is also joining the cast as an analyst this season, and reporters include Jen Lada, Jess Sims and Pete Thamel, along with “Stanford Steve” Coughlin as a sports betting analyst.
The 2024 meeting between the Ags and Irish will be just the sixth time the two have clashed on the gridiron. Notre Dame owns a 3-2 series lead, but A&M won the last matchup 24-3 at Kyle Field.
Aug. 31, 2024, will be just Notre Dame’s second visit to College Station.
GameDay will likely be broadcast from Aggie Park on the Texas A&M campus from 8 a.m. CT until 11 a.m. on Aug. 31.
