Shouldn't be surprised by any song he sang. His set list doesn't change. If you've seen one George Strait show, you've seen them all. I love him, but wasn't going to pay what they were asking to see the same show I've seen 5 times.

Kind of a cool (semi-related) story from a few years ago. My best friend was turning 40 and it happened to be the weekend that there was a Willie Nelson celebration concert in Nashville (sort of a birthday bash with some of his favorites). When we bought tickets there were maybe 10 artists on the bill, and by the time the show happened it had snowballed like crazy and everyone wanted to perform. The thing ran over 3 hours and included performances by:

  • Dave Mathews
  • George strait
  • Emmylou Harris
  • Nathaniel Rateliff
  • The Avett Brothers
  • John Mellencamp
  • Margo Price
  • Jason Isbell
  • Amanda Shires
  • Eric Church
  • Chris Stapleton
  • Sturgill Simpson
  • Lyle Lovett
  • Lee Anne Womack
  • Kris Kristopherson
  • Sheryl Crow
  • Vince Gill
  • Jamey Johnson
  • Jack Johnson
  • Norah Jones
  • Allison Krause
  • Jimmy Buffet
  • Steve Earl
  • Ray Benson
  • Derek Trucks
  • Susan Tedeschi

On many of these, Willie came out and played with them or sang a duet.

Finally, George Strait comes on stage and says (believe it or not) he had never shared a stage with Nelson. Willie came out and they performed an original song together called "I never got to do one with Willie".

Pretty amazing memory!

All of George Straights songs are covers.

He didn't write a single one of his hits.

Wrong

Please enlighten me. Last I checked. He only performed songs written by others.

I read somewhere a while back he wrote here for a good time, blue water, honky tonk bar, and several lesser known songs on various records. I have no idea where I read that now.

On Saturday, you could get floor seats for $115 per ticket on seat geek. We paid more than that to sit in the third deck.

Some snobby responses in here. I guess since it's the Zoo.

We went and thought it was incredible. I had never seen him in concert before. I'll never forget seeing something like that at Kyle Field. Pretty special.

For years, George Strait was criticized because his concerts were just him coming out and singing his songs then walking off the stage.

Now he's getting criticized for changing things up and not doing what he was criticized for doing in the past.

Moral of the story: Some of you can't be made happy, no matter what.

I saw 3rd row floor seats yesterday morning for $200/ea direct from the 12th Man Foundation website. Think it was that way for several days before the show.

Must of been the floor seats sections not around the stage because I checked days before day of on 12thman and it was 4xx for 3rd row but that was the floor sections near the stage.

George isn't much of an entertainer anymore.

I disagree with OP.

But I think we can all agree that just because you get 100,000+ paying top dollar to get into Kyle Field doesn't necessarily mean the product on the field is not trash.

I see what you did there...

Bravo...

It was great. I loved everything about it. We need more of it. I've always defended George Strait when all of the losers out there say "oh but he said he was retiring, why is he still playing shows." He said he was done doing nation wide tours. He always said he'd play shows here and there when he wanted to. That's what he's done.

However…he played too many covers. I want to hear George strait play George strait songs, not tom petty and Merle haggard. Great event. Need more.
The only song I recognized was "Amarillo by Morning". Turns out, that one is a cover as well. The whole genre is severely lacking.

hate to break it to you, but every geroge strait song you like was likely written by someone else. Ive never understood the Texan fascination with him, not when so many talented song writers are from Texas. That said, I wish you all well and hope you had fun.
What an asinine take, if you can even call it a take. It's like, I know music, you don't, and George didn't write most of his songs. Anybody else in the world can sing them, how'd they do? I guess Garth should be ashamed of Friends in Low Places, and others?

Elvis didn't write any of the songs he sang and look at what he did.

I'm sure George is so relieved to have your staunch advocacy. Lord only knows how many times the subject of his concert patronage has come up amongst mixed company conversation and you've been there to zealously represent his position on the subject.
