Either way, BOoM! I like it
2026 North Forney cornerback Ryan Gilbert commits to Texas A&M
Mike Elko and the Aggies continue to hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and this time, they tapped into the 2026 class for one of the state’s top cornerbacks as North Forney standout Ryan Gilbert announced his commitment to Texas A&M.
Checking in at 6-foot, 175 pounds, Gilbert is known for his lockdown ability. His quick feet and change of direction make him a sticky cover corner, and his ability to locate and track the ball allows him to change from DB to receiver in a hurry. Then, there is his physicality. He is a downhill striker more than capable of making plays in the open field.
As a sophomore at Mesquite Horn, he recorded two interceptions and one sack on his way to second-team All-District honors, and following the season, the offers began to roll.
Co-defensive coordinator and cornerback coach Jordan Peterson led the Aggies’ recruiting efforts. Gilbert visited in early February for Junior Day, received his offer in late March and returned to check out spring practice a few days later. He also made an impression with a strong camp showing this summer.
Gilbert is the second commitment of Texas A&M’s 2026 recruiting class and the second defensive back pledge to the Aggies, joining his former Mesquite Horn teammate Markel Ford in the class.
In addition to Texas A&M, the likes of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Houston were among his top schools.
Gilbert also received offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Colorado State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Texas, Ole Miss, Pitt, San Diego State, SMU, TCU, Texas State, Tulsa, UCF, Utah, UTEP, UTSA and Wisconsin.
