I read that having six SEC teams ranked in the top seven spots this week is the first time that any conference has achieved that in the 88-years of the poll's existence. A first, and our conference did it.

I don't understand the concept of conference pride. Why would you be proud of an accomplishment you had nothing to do with? The only time I ever rooted for a SWC or Big 12 opponent is when their win improved Texas' chances for a championship. Other than that, eff 'em and hard luck to 'em. Same here.

Conference pride with respect to the SEC was due to mutual respect and accepting each other as equals. It is an iron sharpens iron conference. We make each other better through competition across all the sports we compete with each other on. Best in football, women's basketball, gymnastics, softball, baseball. Good and improving in basketball, tennis, golf. and continually competitive in track and field just to name a few off the top of my head.

The mismanagement of the Texas and Oklahoma entrance by our school (Bjork especially but he wasn't the cause just the fan-facing response that was extremely poorly organized due to the leak) and by the SEC has reduced trust. And destroyed the rumored trust the conference had and extended to us when we joined.

I think it helps to review why Bobby Dodd led Georgia Tech to leave the SEC due to a personal feud mostly with Bama. It left them in a competitive disadvantage mainly by losing their conference opponents that made them strong.

Texas in the SWC was a much stronger program than it was after the switch to the Big 12 because they were better known regionally and all their conference opponents brought their best. The divisions in the Big 12 were unfortunately not similar and that allowed pride to exceed proven results which left them less well funded and less successful. I'll note their leadership got involved strategically in making their conference relationships extremely fractious, too. They have to change to not create the same disadvantages but they also have a huge national fan base.

The thing that fits about Oklahoma and Texas is the iron sharpens iron mentality and they both covet the better home schedules as well. That is why this conference does mean more and was an extremely smart strategic choice and the proof is Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma all followed us here.

Yep, I said the same thing elsewhere. I'm not an Aggie but as far as I'm concerned all the other teams are just targets, not some kind of stupid "brothers". That attitude's for schools like Arkansas and Kentucky who can only achieve by association. It's a shield to insulate them from losing all the time. So a fan from Miss St can tell any other team in the country "I don't have to prove anything to you because I lose to good teams every week and they're better than you!" It's literally "My dad can beat up your dad!"

I guarantee you Georgia and Alabama fans don't feel extra good about themselves when Vanderbilt beats Virginia Tech and I guarantee you Tennessee fans don't feel pride when they see Alabama win a national championship just because they're "conference mates".

I haven't given a crap about the NFL in ages but when the Cowboys were winning big 30 years ago that was part of a stretch of time where the NFC East overall had been super powerful. And I damn sure wasn't happy watching the Giants and Redskins win Super Bowls just because it was "our division", why would this be any different? All I see is my team and a bunch of other goobers that are just in the way.

This is literally how I picture the "conference pride" folks, as the little yellow dog. "Can I please hang around you??? I'm cool too, right???!"

And mark my words, the Austinites will trip up vs a dipsheet opponent on top of big L to UGA.

I hope the rivalry game at Kyle is for a CFP berth for both of us. But if nothing else, if they are 8-3 or 9-2, we can kill their season.

Conference pride and chanting SEC when you're not winning is a joke. Sure if ur bama/Ga/LSU does it sounds great bc you carry the conference.

When u don't snifff a title like the bottom 6 including us it just always come across to me as coat tail pride. Like bc bama won, it makes us better? What a joke of a mentality.

Week 2 we still know very little about any of these teams. Georgia is probably a decent bet to be elite, we've seen it from them for a few years now even if they have to replace some pretty talented departures.

Texas is going to be very competent, but I think a not insignificant part of their win against UM was a Michigan team which has lost a ton of both on-field and coaching talent.

Past that, I don't think we can say with any degree of certainty on any of these teams to be contenders. Can Mizzou go the distance? How quickly can DeBoer settle in at Bama? When does the locker room fall apart in the Grove?

Yes. Michigan will not make a bowl gsme this year. Mark my words. ZERO offensive weapons.

I tip my hat for dominating as they did on road. Never easy. But it was against a 5 win team.

There are a handful of teams that have superior talent , continuity on the coaching staff and veteran players at key positions These are the elite teams pre season teams

Early in the year those teams will crush their opponents and hear the lamentations of their women

By mid season a few teams more teams will look like they can challenge the preseason elites- highly dependent on QB play if portal players pan out and injuries

a few teams will be determined ti be overrated People should not really be surprised that ND Michigan FSU and the Ags struggled all are either breaking in New QBs or OC's and Their talent level is not high enough to dominate while they figure it out.

The real trouble with the SEC, even in a down year, is the brutal style of play. Good luck making it thru unscathed. That will be the key. If Ewers goes down at any point, their season is lost.

Georgia is really deep so they can afford injuries and still win. They're easily the class of the conference.

You think Gunner Stockton gives Georgia a better shot at success than Manning does for Texas? Based on?

Any of the top teams that is forced to a backup QB is going to be extremely vulnerable, Texas, Georgia, and Ohio State included. Same with Miami, Ole Miss, or Tennessee. Ironically, the least affected would be those with garbage starters. ND might improve if Leornard's shoulder keeps him out.

Texas is pretty decent. But lets face it, they'll choke and even if not, there is a ZERO % chance we let them leave Kyle Field with a W.
Texas would probably be about a 13.5 point favorite in the game, at this point.

How often does the lower-ranked team win in this series?

We've beat them, what, 37 or 38 times?

Probably 30 of those were were lower ranked, and I know they have beaten us more than once when we were ranked higher. So call it 35 times out of about 120 or so total games.

Looks like 8 times since 1950 the lower ranked team has won. So 8 of 61 or so. Doesn't happen often, certainly not like Texas-OU or Alabama-Auburn.

SP+ has Texas -11.5 at the moment.

I just watched the Texas/MICH game. Texas just looks bigger across the line and faster on skilled positions. Their defense are much improved and back end looks fast. Michigan got very little YAC.

I don't see Texas losing 2 games before our game.

All 2 loss SEC teams should make the playoffs. We have a chance if we get our offense up to speed. Defense is good enough.

Texas won the last SWC championship

Texas won the first Big 12 championship

Texas beat us the last time we played in the Big 12

I REALLY don't want them to beat us in their first year in the SEC and potentially move on to the CCG and possibly playoff/natty.

They looked damn good against Michigan, but I REALLY hope they flame out at some point. I just don't want another first/last stat for them to hang their hat on. Granted, our boys have some work to do on the field to avoid that happening for the people in Austin, but I can hope.

We win on walk off FG.

While Texas dominated Michigan from start to finish on the road for a 31-12 rout, Georgia escaped Lexington with a narrow 13-12 win over Kentucky, who was coming off an embarrassing 31-6 home loss to South Carolina. Still, Georgia had a dominating second half to throttle Clemson 34-3 in Week 1. I think Georgia will lose one regular season game at Alabama on 9/28, but beat Texas in Austin on 10/19. I am predicting 11-1 (7-1 SEC) Texas vs 11-1 (7-1) Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Alabama could join Texas and Georgia in the CFP field. None of them have played conference games yet, but they all have 31+ point wins over their respective nonconference Power 4 opponents: NC State, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin.

So far, Mississippi State, Florida, and Vanderbilt are at the bottom of the SEC. Saturday's Florida at Mississippi State will be a matchup of the two worst SEC teams. Because Mississippi State is coming off an embarrassing 41-17 home loss to MAC Toledo, Florida opened up at 7.5-point road favorite in that game. The loser of that game will probably finish with a winless 0-8 SEC record. Vanderbilt lost 36-32 at Georgia State, but at least they have a Power 4 win over Virginia Tech in Week 1. Nevertheless, Vanderbilt might also finish with a winless 0-8 SEC record.

As for the other 8 SEC teams, I think we will have a much better idea on 10/26 or after 9 weeks. By that point, every SEC team will have played 8 games and at least 5 conference games.

So it has been said....

Texas is an extremely good football team right now, but they are getting dangerously thin at QB and RB. The OL is pretty salty and the WR room is almost too deep. But if Arch gets hurt in the next two games, they're a completely different team. And if they lose another RB, they're completely one dimensional.

However, their defense is better than most people realize. Last year, the secondary kept them from playing in the NCG by sharting away the OU and Washington games. This year they're an elite unit. And yes, the DL lost their best two players to the NFL, but the new guys are pretty dang good.

If Texas gets healthy and stays healthy, they'll go 11-1. If they lose more guys to injury, especially at QB, RB or DB, they could drop three or more.

Ewers could play if he needed to. He almost certainly won't unless they want to get him some reps next week. Texas could beat ULM and Mississippi State with Owens at QB.

Blue was out as a precaution. Probably the same this week. Ankles can be finicky things, but he did OK after the ding in Ann Arbor.

Any team in the country playing a third string QB could lose three or more.

Of course, anything could happen but if someone thinks Georgia is going to win by 3-4 scores with a line that will almost certainly less than a FG (presuming both teams stay healthy) that person can make a lot of money on that game.
