Both QBs look sharp. While I do think beating down Michigan may not be all it is cracked up to be, I think they've got as legitimate of a claim on the #1 spot as anyone in the country.

They're going to get to prove it now.

Except they really aren't going to have to prove it now because they were gifted about the easiest SEC schedule possible.

Everyone on here says we suck and we are their second hardest game.
How were they "gifted" it?

You know how the schedule was determined, right?

I just watched an interview with Matt Leinart and he claimed that Ohio St is heads and shoulder above everyone and clearly best team in the nation. Sounds like the USC guy marketing and pumping up the B1G. Dumb take.

I always like to be clear. As I've said before, I'm a part longhorn fan (received my undergrad and have a kid that attends there).

So as a part longhorn fan, I can clearly state they are NOT the best team in the country. Top 5, yes!! Texas just happens to be next in line. The #1 ranking will be rotating all year long. My rankings would be the following:

1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Tennessee
4. Texas
5. Ole Miss

Out of conference schedule are made 3+ years in advance. They scheduled Michigan who were on their way to 3 straight conference titles. They scheduled Bama during the Saban Dynasty.

I am not sure why people think their OOC is light or they scheduled patsies. Most teams do not schedule a tough OOC game. Usually its 2-3 blowouts and maybe a middle/low power 4 conference.

Their schedule will always have OU which is a perennial top 10 team and us which always start the season top 20.

Some years they get a lighter schedule and in a few years they will flip with OU.

We were very fortunate to have likely the easiest schedule in the SEC. Just because we have scheduled the #1 team in the country is more b/c we didn't hold up out end of the bargain. If we beat ND and run the table like we are capable, then we would be top 5 come November.

If we played to our potential, they would be playing a top 15 MU/OU, #2 Ga, Top 5 A&M. That doesn't seem light at all. Compare that to any other conference and outside of the SEC, you can't find many teams playing this schedule.

Look at Miami, They will play maybe one team that ends up in the top 25. Currently their schedule has one team, #19 Louisville, on their schedule.

Look at tOSU, Their current schedule has #9 Oregon, 22 Neb, 10 PSU, 18 Michigan

USC has #13 LSU (when played), #18 Mich, 10 PSU, 22 Neb, 17 ND

texas has #10 Mich (when played), 15 OU, 2 Ga, 25 A&M

Objectively their schedule is harder all 3 teams

Several points to make about this...
1. Sips were forced to schedule marquee OOC games because they could not sell season tickets with their BDF home schedule since they always play the only game their fans cared about in Dallas.

2. As far as OU being a perennial Top 10 team goes, we will just have to see going forward. To their credit, they were the masters of dominating the Big 12/BDF. But I don't foresee them going 8-0 or 7-1 perennially in the SEC to remain a Top 10 team.

3. As far as where teams were ranked early in the year and where they are now, that means absolutely nothing. I don't know what Michigan's schedule looks like but most people have them going 8-4 at best. Will that be enough to keep them ranked? Maybe, only because they are Michigan and tOSU may need a win over a ranked team. Similarly, with OU's brutal schedule, they will most likely not finished ranked either. So tu will most likely only play two ranked teams and that is assuming we don't step on our dicks and lose a game we "shouldn't".

Not necessarily related to your post but something that also matters in this day and age of the wide open transfer portal is when you play someone. If a team has had a larger than normal turnover, it may take time for that team to gel. Similarly, the same goes with a coaching change and a coaching change usually comes with a lot of roster churn anyway. All this to say that a team that sucks in September could become very salty by November. So you need to consider that when comparing schedules.

I get where you are coming from but from your points

#1 - No one is forced. They are a big name. If they have 1 loss and won the Big 12, they are in the 4 team playoff. Playing that game is more risk than reward because a loss gives them zero room for error. tOSU does this all the time and the old big 10 sucks just as bad as the big 12.

#2 - You can only go from the past and not the future. They have been top 10 many times and been in the title game more than anyone outside of Clemson, Bama, Ga, tOSU. This is just the facts.

#3 - You can't be revisionists. Their schedule at the beginning is what it is and no one knows how good Michigan or any team will be. If you want to look back after the season, then that is a whole different conversation but we are 3 games into the season so no one knows who will end up being good. When their schedule came out, it appeared harder by most metrics compared to tOSU, any ACC team.

I get hating your rivals, but the best way for us to get better is to accept that they have set a bar that we need to work towards. Put them on a pedestal, and work towards being a top 3 team every year. Tear them down just lowers the bar for our program b/c it appears many on here care more about just being better than texas

I'm shorting them all I can at AP #1 / Coach's Poll #2. I think they're quite good (unfortunately), but more like top 10 good than #1 or 2. It will take us beating them to keep them out of the playoffs, and even then ?

All I hear is that Texas has not played anybody. What top 5 team has not played a weak schedule?

That is precisely my point. Why anoint t.u. if they haven't beaten anyone yet? It seems foolish to say they are better than everyone else based on their body of work this year. I am betting they hit a couple of walls with the attrition in the SEC. Albeit they have a fairly easy schedule, any SEC team could step up and surprise any other SEC team.

Because someone has to be there. Why not them? They've covered three times by double digits. The lines will eventually catch up to them, probably this week, but they're absolutely dominating beyond expectations.

There are reasonable arguments for other teams and there's a reasonable argument for Texas. It doesn't mean anything at this point, anyway.

They play Georgia in a month and we'll know more then.

I wouldn't go as far as to say any SEC team can beat them but there are 5 on their schedule that could.

What we should probably be saying is that they are unbeatable . Feed them all the rat poison that they want.

We have been in the SEC 12 years and have never even made it to the SEC title game.

If it takes texas being a top 3 SEC program to push us to be better, so be it. Maybe texas winning the SEC will burn a fire in our program so we can compete at that level. I don't care what they or any other SEC team does.

Okay, I must be nuts: I think the Kentucky game at home is a trap for them, if Kentucky plays against them like they did Georgia and Stoops learns the finer points of punting. They may be looking ahead at that point.

Our trap, as ever, is Mississippi State. It will be the game that heralds the turnaround of their program, if we let them.

Anybody that is above 50 and lived in Texas all there lives and paid any attention at all to old school Texas politics can easily answer the question. Where do you think the term t-sip was coined?
The school has spit out thousands of journalism and political science majors for over a century that entrenched themselves within the media, and entertainment industries and political arenas.
They spawned thousands of attorneys and politicians and old time Texas money that was based upon big business, petrochemical and land barons that have controlled our state legislature and lawmakers for that same 150+ year time span. Laugh and call that a conspiracy theory but Texans that have been around the block a few times are well aware of this fact.
Take the time to look at our old school predominant, governors, state senate and house leaders and controlling state entities and you will usually see they display the t u diploma on their walls.
Sure we have some big time Aggies in the business world in Texas but compare the number of Aggie grads in the political arena or judicial and law arenas….. then also compare how many Aggies are in the realm of journalism or public news media or even in the entertainment industries as compared to longhorn grads and you can understand.
A good comparison is the power the democrats have over the news media, Hollywood and entertainment industries and labor unions as compared to republicans.
How the hell do think they wormed their way into the SEC anyway?
And people just think it's an accident or just good fortune that they end up in their first year in the SEC with an easy schedule?
Anybody that thinks otherwise is just too young to understand the last two centuries of Texas politics or just plum naive.

Good grief you must go through a lot tin foil for your hats.

Texas is very good. They are a complete team with a very good, experienced QB in Ewers. The question is can Ewers stay healthy. Not buying into the Arch hype because he lit up a glorified JUCO. He may turn out to be good, but Ewers is better.

Quinn Ewers is a good quarterback. I'm not arguing that. However, how experienced is he? Has he played a full season of college football yet? Arch Manning had a great partial game against a terrible college football team. I'm just not putting the crown on their heads yet.

This Saturday's Florida at Mississippi State will be a matchup of the two worst SEC teams. Because Mississippi State is coming off an embarrassing 41-17 home loss to MAC Toledo, Florida is currently a 6.5-point road favorite at Mississippi State. The loser of that game will probably finish with a winless 0-8 SEC record.

Vanderbilt lost 36-32 at Georgia State, but at least they have a Power 4 win over Virginia Tech in Week 1. Nevertheless, Vanderbilt might also finish with a winless 0-8 SEC record for the 2nd straight year and 3rd time in 4 years.

They have the easiest SEC schedule in the history of the SEC. They'll be in the playoffs and likely have another easy path with their seeding.

The only ones that can stand in their way is likely us. We'll have our chance to play spoiler at home this year, and I like our chances.

Are you the new Branding Iron? Your takes are pretty similar.

I like our chances too. at the end of the year we will have figured things out with the O and i think our D can hold up well enough to keep us in the game. a turnover or 2 can change the whole thing and the crowd will probably be the loudest in history

Quinn Ewers hasn't played a full season of football since his Sophomore year at Southlake Carroll. Missed a few games his junior year, skipped his senior year, barely saw the field at Ohio State, missed three games his first year at Texas, and two games last year.

They still have to play Georgia and Us.

The difference in the big12 and the SEC is even average SEC defenses can stack the box, play man to man on the outside and force Manning to throw over the top.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Arkansas or another midling SEC team take them to the wire.

We're a middling team until proven otherwise. We can beat them tho and so can about four other teams remaining on their schedule. I'm not suggesting they will lose 5 games but they could very well drop 2.

You'll continue to hear it until it is proven wrong. You can say otherwise all you want but it doesn't make it so. Middling team to me means 5-11 in a 14 team league . We were above 5 maybe 2 yrs since we have been in the SEC. Maybe you disagree with my definition of middling?

Top tier programs don't go on 10 conference game road losing streaks .

Last week's game looked like something to build on for sure BUT Florida is either bottom tier or lower middle tier right now. You have to beat a top tier team on occasion to be top tier. We have a few times but weren't consistent enough in those seasons to claim top tier status excepting the 2 years I mentioned(2012 & 2020).

We all know the sips are the media darlings. ESPN has had a hard on for them for many years. But I think the hype surrounding them is BS. Who have they beaten? Michigan has struggled to a 2-1 record. Fresno State gave Michigan everything they wanted. Hell, Arkansas State stayed within 10 of the Wolverines. The sips dominated Colorado State, who is miserable. And they pummeled UTSA, who is 1-2 and also miserable. As the season goes on, the cracks in their foundation are going to show. Especially on October 19 when Georgia visits. (I know Georgia had a close one against Kentucky, but they are an SEC team with SEC talent, and most great teams have one of those games every year.) This coming week the sips are going to curb stomp UL Monroe and EsipN will act like they were world beaters.

Who cares? Beat them. And win all our games. Who cares? So what if they win too? Win all our games and beat them.

Reality is it's too early to crown any team. Sips have looked as good as anyone. Whether you want to put them at 1 or 5 it doesn't really matter. Lots of great games to go and it'll all shake itself out. They have experience at the right positions and an easy schedule. LIfe gets a lot harder next year with a new OLine and 5 road conference games.
