This loss was an unfortunate much needed wake up call. That performance last night was our team at its absolute worst, from the coaching, to the players, to the basic fundamentals.

It's this loss that will help us recalibrate and refocus to close the season with a win vs sip and momentum heading into the playoffs.

It was a wake up call for the players and the coaches as they enter the bye week to work it out. Elko has learned from his mistakes no doubt, and he knows what needs to be done to fix it.

We get a practice game to work on these things after the bye. Then a struggling Auburn team away to make sure we've got it figured out before the finale. It's all still right in front of us.

If the team wins out, including an ass-kicking bowl game, then, yes, this loss can actually mean something.

My BAS is telling me not to hold my breath, though.

There is no such thing as a good loss no matter what you say. A bad win also beats a good loss. If this team needs to lose to get focused then they are not a contender for anything.

I agree with the OP. We were not as good as our record and maybe the team got a bit cocky. A reality check is good.
Let's be honest, we are not a Top 10 team. Maybe some pretenders are also in the list but we need to be better than this to be Top 10. We have several weaknesses, both on O and D.

The loss isn't the end of the world regardless of how it happened. If we won against usc but lost to texas at 10-2 we very likely miss the playoffs. If we beat Texas we are in the sec championship anger control our fate. So, if the goal is the playoffs, nothing really changed. Need to beat Texas. We prolly lost a shot at a first round bye last night but that's about it.

Now if moss is out for the remainder of the year, that's worse than the L for the game. But all in all, while there is no such thing as a good loss, this one isn't that big of a deal. But we have to win out.

I think we're top 20, but not playoff top 12.
I think the team got an over-inflated ego of who they were, and have been deviating from the things that brought them original on field success.

And I think if we play like that again against Auburn, we'll be in a dogfight and could lose that one too.

Wrong. Almost ever other top 10 team has had an upset or ugly game.

Generally don't agree that a loss is a good thing. But you may have a point. If the team is so embarrassed and humiliated that this loss lights a fire under then, then it's a good thing that they dropped the clunker now instead of against Texas or whoever the next opponent might be.

If we'd won, we likely have the cushion to potentially lose to t.u. and still have a shot as a 2 loss team.

Now we're in a spot where we HAVE to win out.

I'm not sure "likely" is the right word for our playoff hopes had we lost to Sips to finish 10-2. maybe. Could be 50/50. They could easily say we went 1-2 against the 3 good teams we played.

MS St had a lot of similar issues aligned and they are a bad team (we let it be close due to penalties and poor tackling). The handwriting has been on the wall many times this yr (incl w ND).

Aub will be tough away and they always play us close (to me, it's a tougher environment than USCe). If we think Freeze has lost th asylum, maybe, but wouldn't count on it vs us.

Yep, winning until the tu game afforded us the chance to lose to tu and still be in the playoffs. Not anymore. Some Ags don't understand that.

We've reached the "this loss was actually a good thing" point

We are now out of the race for anything that matters and are likely going to be boat raced by sip on Thanksgiving if this is where our offense and defense are against freaking South Carolina.

OP wins for dumbest post of year. Wake up calls are fine. Tight win over bad team on road in conference. This was a debacle.

I am sure we will win out headed to the LSS game since we play drek but i dont think we will be aided by getting pantsed vs middle of road (at best) SEC team.

Don't recall many great teams, or even really good teams, needing a loss to get a wake up call. Maybe if we lose out, that will be such a wake up call that we go undefeated next year?

Well have another look back. Most good teams had an L. It's how you respond to it that makes the difference. Even many of Saban's great teams had a loss before wining it all.

It was obvious we weren't going to learn from our mistakes while winning. Hopefully this was our wake up call. BAS be damned.
