Yeah we tackled like **** and deserved to lose. Pardon my ignorance as I've only coached in HS for 13 years and not an expert, but what exactly is holding?

Sorry on a few of them. Not holding but actually tackles but an impressive usc Oline and TE's. Guess hugging and tacking technically don't count as "holding."

One play you have 3 holds and a block in the back. Sorry had to throw in the close line by usc db.

And for all of the Nancie's screaming "hard to blame refs", I'm not on the team or the staff, so not blaming anyone if you can read.

I'm simply stating and showing facts followed by a question. There is a difference.

I was at the game and some of these were blatantly obvious in real time. Sooooo very frustrating to watch.

We were not going to be allowed to sit at the top of the SEC for more than 1 week.

It's like lane kiffin is coaching their offensive line. It's not holding, it's hugging...we're just glad you came to see us. If you do it every play, the refs can't call it all the time.

Can't tell from a still unless it shows grabs or shoulders turned. It is what is. We need to quit excusing player performance by blaming the refs. They are part of the field of play and even if the field slants both ways and has lots of pot holes you play on it and win.

for OP. Great work & this is the only kind of thing (of course, crowdsourced and scaled up orders of magnitude) is the only way our program will ever get a fair shake.

Doesn't get called much at most levels unless it's egregious and catches attention. We teach our lineman what they'll get away with and what they won't

I am just curious. How do elite athletes who have played football since the pee wee leagues forget how to tackle?
Seems like our tackling was the big problem.

The fact that it wasn't preached to drop your pad level when trying to tackle a 240lb QB is on the coaching staff no doubt.

I think Usc strategy was to hold a grab on the backside and force us to make one on one tackles, we failed and they played the odds.

The league wants high drama and they want blue bloods. There was no way the league was going to let A&M have zero conference losses heading into Nov 30. Now, the league wants Alabama at 10-2, expect some shady calls tomorrow night. The league wants a top matchup between Georgia and Tenn so expect shady calls against Ole Miss. The league isnt going to let tu lose to Florida or Arky. Expect shady calls in both.

If anyone actually thinks this, what a pathetic way to go through life.

There is blatant holding in every game. If we could tackle we win that game easily.

I wonder if the refs needed to give SC a make-up game since they screwed them out of the LSU win.

SEC Official: "I see no holding".

Unfortunately at the college level the officials suck. They influence/control a lot of the games significantly. Sometimes the breaks go our way but a lot of times they don't. The coaching staff just needs to make sure they give the officials an earful when it does happen so at least they are somewhat more inclined to look for it & hopefully call it.

Considering the SC was one of the most penalized teams in the conference then to suddenly have no penalties in the first half (except on declined) and then none till 4th Qrt when game was in hand, felt a little odd to me. Especially after seeing multiple infraction as noted in the OP post.

Funny how when the most penalized teams play us in a high leverage game they magically have few or no penalties. See Alabama 2023.

I think it has less to do with Texas A&M but more to do who Texas A&M is right now and also it does the SEC more good now and for future playoff discussions to show that there is currently 8 SEC teams in the top 25 and and strong usc and able Arky team that could be close to top 25.

That gives the conference a lot of leverage. In regard to A&M right now, if the QB situation was more stable I don't think there would be a semi biased against us. The SEC wants an argument for 5 teams in the playoff , leverage over a not so strong Big 10 and all SEC teams having an argument that they could win the whole thing.

Of course we could win it all, but no other team in the argument has had the ups and downs at Qb like we have. Consistency there changes the whole dynamic.

Call it 2 or 3 times and it would stop. Also, if I am coach, I hire a judo expert to coach how to get out of holds in camp. If they don't turn loose, it breaks an arm. They will stop.

Nancys since names aren't pluralized like common nouns.

Officiating at all levels has gotten worse-that is objective fact. Anyone watch the Bengals/Ravens game 4th down 2 point play that essentially ended the game. The 'Rules expert' noted two obvious penalties against the Ravens that didn't get called- defensive holding and targeting on Burrows. And anyone who pays attention has noticed the absolute avalanche of un-called facemask penalties in College and the Pros. Many calls are subjective-Facemask penalties are one of the few completely OBJECTIVE penalties, and it is inexcusable that so many are missed.

I'm not opposed to your thinking. Following this same logic, when we get to the A&M tu game, if both have only one conference loss we all know who will benefit from some shady calls.

Very odd. Besides the one declined they got two kicks out of bounds and a delay of game. The only time a zebra ever pulled a flag on SC during play, it was inconsequential and declined.

The SEC generally doesn't call a lot of holds, but then again we got called for both offense and defensive holding while they got 0 calls....

Before Saturday they averaged 7.5 penalties a game, over 8 penalties per game at home. They had 13 against LSU at home

No do the same thing for SC and see how many of these you come up with. Cuz listening to the weekly "they missed all the holds" posts are exhausting.

This is a great question. I often hear people talk about how the coach is terrible because he's not teaching fundamentals. But by the time these guys are playing at a D1 school, they've been playing football for 10-15 years. The fundamentals are something they should have down cold at that point.

Holding is never going to be standardized. If it were black and white, it would be called on every play. Aside from egregious, obvious examples, holding will always be a wild card.

THIS

I hate blaming refs for much of anything. Yes they suck and have been nothing but HORRIBLE across the SEC. It is a major issue for modern NIL with all the money and must be addressed and standardized across conferences.

HOWEVER I never blame a ref for losing. Ever.

If they get away with hug holding in the SEC then it is part of the game and the players/coaches must address the defenciency. Or maybe teach our O-line to do exactly the same.

We got our arses beat plain and simple. Just like we beat LSUs arse. No different. We must learn quickly from it.
