The average sports fan has no clue who won last years National Title in college baseball because the sport is not covered all that much by the Local or National Media.
College baseball is in the same realm as track, swimming and tennis. Sports that don't move the needle....but you are proud of the student athletes if they do really well and bring honor to the school.

Anybody that seriously argues that womens bball is higher on the ladder than baseball is, well, dumb. Your last sentence cements that notion.
