They are down in the dumps now, but they will win soon.
Many billionaires who went to these schools. All they have to do is throw some loose change and they can buy the best players.

Get ready. Stanford will be National Champ. Goodbye Alabama, seeya Michigan.

Players still have to academically qualify at those schools to play.

Past history tells us Stanford and Harvard almni prefer to pay for buildings and academics, not athletics. It would be a tremendous cultural shift for that to change.

Harvard already has 12 national championships in football.

Now they focus on championships in woke ideology.

Pull up the old letters from Vince to Colt, and tell me the Ivy League schools are willing to back that caliber of student

Both of those schools require athletes to meet school academic standards. They will never compete

You don't know how this works.

Unlike A&M, they need to commit to hiring the very best coaching staff.

Have you seen the numbskulls that teach at, attend and graduate from the Ivys now?

That won't be a problem at all.

Stanford does fine with Olympic sports. Usually near top of Learfield Directors' Cup.

Will probably do fine if the nationwide conferences don't putter out if they can built a draw west.

Flights from east coast cities to Oakland and San Jose used to be more convenient and cheaper than SFO. That both Cal and Stanford are Bay Area is a marketing opportunity for techs. But winning draw more eyeballs than mehing…

First of all, no, they won't. Except for maybe Stanford, their athletic budget, particularly football, will never get to the level it needs to be. Faculty and current students wouldn't allow it.

Second, even if it DID happen, what's the issue as long as they play the same game as everyone else? Its beyond snobbish to assert that only the Alabamas of the world can compete for and win NCs. Plus, given the number of people that allege that they "hate" the schools you allege "should" win it, the popularity of college football would explode if that were to happen.

This is the idiotic thinking that kept the BCS around and the CFP at 4 teams for a decade: only certain teams were allowed to compete.

I'm sure the Northwestern, Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Vandy, era is right around the corner.

The petulant posts bemoaning the state of the union are pretty fun. Cal is better than Stanford, which should spur Cardinal money into splurging tens of thousands of dollars into NIL.

I'm feeling bottom 1/3 rather than 1/4 in the ACC is plausible, if not probable. It's a tough conference.

Those schools generally have important things to do.

NIL would have priced Andrew Luck out of going to Stanford, not turned the Cardinal into national champions along with Harvard.

Their billionaires aren't tarded. They don't throw all their money into the myth of college athletics.

Stanford can't draw flies at a football game. They have a tiny stadium and they can't even fill it. Lack of interest in college football, especially in California is the reason the Pac 12 is gone.

They will invest NIL money on rowing before they put it towards football.

Those many billionaires didn't get to be billionaires by being stupid enough to throw money into NIL to be used to give to kids for playing football.

Harvard? no way. More likely they go the FCS route.

Stanford, not impossible but I just can't see their alumni base throwing enough $ at NIL to compete . They simply don't care that much.

Believe that if you want. It isn't close to true.

The students at the Ivys don't care about football. The Yale Bowl fills for one game every other year. They care far more about hockey and basketball overall, and even that is limited. No scholarships for athletics.

They are already technically FCS. They start participating in the playoffs next season.

Many billionaires have crossed the point where a few millions make any difference to them. They are at a point in life where they get their kicks with schools named after them. One of the things they will do is donate to their school's sports program and become heroes for their alma maters. It won't even make a dent to these billionaires.

Example: Musk can plop down 1 Billion out of his 350+ Billion and can donate to UPenn and Stanford. I believe he has a degree from UPenn but dropped out of Stanford. He can do what he wants and make a big impact.

They could but will they? Stanford has something along the lines of 30 billionaire alumni. If they could convince one or two they could definitely make an impact , your'e not wrong on that but I doubt it will happen. Like others have said , it's just not a big part of their culture . They rarely fill their stadium.

It's been shown even one big $ guy can have an impact re: T Boone Pickens

Ivy League schools don't even give scholarships for football so not sure why Harvard would suddenly encourage their alums to fund NIL.
