Though I suspect that zero effs are given, if anyone wants to know what the rest of the world thought/thinks, here's the guess of a guy who's been in this state watching college football for a LONG time.
Back in my day of being an opposing fan (mid-80s) there was a feeling that even if the Aggies sucked, they had a fighting chance against you if the game was at Kyle Field. It was one of those deals where you went into it thinking "We've got the better team, but those damned Aggies are nuts. Their fans are like rabid dogs and those damned yell leaders are constantly at it."
The guys were all pretty big as I recall. I don't think I'd have wanted to mess with them. I mean, we all made fun of it, and thought not having cheerleaders was pretty gay, but it was a thing, and it set you apart and you ran with it. I can recall watching those guys start some damned chant, then they'd do that thing that looks like guns up, and every effing Aggie in the stands would holler the exact same thing at the exact same time, and it was pretty intimidating. They were actually "Yell" leaders. We always did the whole "Ahhh look, they have to be told when to cheer and what to cheer. They're a bunch of damned sheep," but honestly, it was pretty damned impressive, and the guys were the crux of it. You always thought that those guys were probably the kind of guys who were going to be the first at the office, the last to leave, worked out every day, mowed their yards like bosses, married the prettiest chick, and eventually ran the world.
Pretty much now they're all ass-pirates. They literally dance around like a bunch of nancies. What's with all that jazz hands ***** All the videos of them on the internet are disturbing. I'm pretty sure at least 3 of the 5 swing both ways. They're nothing more than a chorus line, flitting around. Nobody is afraid of going to Kyle Field, and I really think the pussification of the yell leaders and the student body in general is why.
When I was a kid everyone at A&M was an Aggie. Like the whole "Aggie thing" or not as an outsider, at least you had to respect that you didn't go to A&M if you didn't want to be an Aggie. Was it different? Yeah. Was it my thing? No. But were the people there committed? You're damned right. That's why they had the term 2%er. About 2% of the student body was not an AGGIE.
Now everyone there is just a "Texas A&M student". There are very few, if any, Aggies like they existed in my day. "Aggie" is a dead species, and that's just sad. I mean, don't get me wrong, I want y'all to lose every game you ever play in every sport you ever try, but for ****'s sake, at least don't just be another generic college. Be the Aggies we al learned to know and hate. Now you're just another state school. You might as well be Tech. I think the yell leaders and their gayification are a big part of that.
If that's what you want to represent your school, you might as well put them in pink. The old guys, from my day, were doing something different than the rest of the college football world, and everyone thought it was a little weird, but they were badasses and leaders of men (and women), and you knew they were going to go down swinging, doing their job to keep their fans in the game and their spirit alive.
This **** you have out there now is a cabaret act more appropriate for the rainbow sections of 6th Street than for a college football game.
You know the world has gone to **** when even A&M has gone nancy.
