Aggies could spend twice as much as tOSU and we would still underachieve. It's the Aggie way.

This. And Ryan Day could show up as our HC tomorrow and would proceed to go 7-5.

We are just cursed.

Ryan day passes or our best players die somehow or have season ending injuries.

The consensus among most of Texags, and honestly nationwide, was that Will Howard was woefully average and a step down from the caliber of QB that Ohio State normally has starting for them.

And Ross is their AD…..
And Will Howard was Collin Klein's quarterback

And Riley Leonard was Elko's quarterback

Oh the irony of it all

Amazing how that's totally awesome if you are one of the approved teams.

But did they "bUiLd It tHe RiGhT way??!?"

In case anyone misses the snide comment, "building it the right way" is the TexAgs euphemism for "this doesn't look good but I won't let the sunshine die with me"

"Fran is building it the right way"
"It takes time to grow an oak, Sherman is building it the right way"
"Sumlin is rebuilding the right way"
"Jimbo has to rebuild, and he's doing it the right way"
"Elko will 'get it done,' he's building it the right way"

For real. We have all of this money but are stuck with a QB that can't really throw

This is what happens when you spend money on players and not coaches buyouts.

No they just all have aneurisms and forget how to play and coach as evidenced by:

5 star Weigman ….what happened?
5 star Stewart….what happened?
5 star Hicks…what happened?
5 star Turner…what happened?

Etc etc I can go all the way back to 5 star Jorrie Adams and 5 star Speedy Noil….what happened?

Fran embarrassed Saban in his own house 31-0….what happened?

Aneurisms. All of them.

Maybe the fanbase has no idea what "the right way" actually is.
All they know is that it's different than the predecessor, and the predecessor clearly sucked which is why we fired him. Because, you know, all of our coaching decisions are so smart.

Sherman actually WAS doing it the right way.
Time will tell on Elko.

Everything they did, is well within the rules nowadays. Also, the more popular schools can pay for / solicit the best talent and pay the most money, for them. For everyone else, it's going to be tougher than ever to breakthrough. Blue bloods, gonna blue blood.
Yep. They clearly reflect how to achieve success within the new paradigm of hired players with good coaches, most of whom are paid less than their elite performers. The player rental fees will get only more ridiculous when revenue sharing is a factor.

No doubt they spent wisely. But where was the uproar?

A&M may have spent wisely on players but we will never know. The hillbilly HC had zero idea what to do with them or how to teach the forward pass.

Ross still threw shade at A&M spending, leadership and coaching vs. how its done at OSU (proclaimed how wonderful it is there as all work together from leadership to coaches).

Implicitly sounded like A&M has upper leadership issue, he's still bitter by being embarrassed via getting Stoops, but overridden in 12th hr by a couple boosters, hints of boosters w too much say in the program and that he had his hands tied w Jimbo albatross of a contract (when jettisoned, everything he had to plan to reduce to offset…whole interview online on all the costs to absorb and where cuts and price l increases were coming ). Bottom line, RB tired of A&M boosters meddling.

Apparently we couldn't teach zone coverage nor defending the forward pass per Elko last yr.

OSU spent money to keep the players they recruited and DEVELOPED in-house from going to the draft and the portal. 10 of their 11 starters on defense were homegrown.

Downs was huge get from Bama. They told Judkins "you won't be RB1 here" and he was cool with it. Howard is good, but not Cam Newton or Tim Tebow level impactful.

So yes, they spent $$$. But it's not like they went to the portal for an entire team. They got guys to fill a couple gaps, and those guys were supportive of the situation they were walking into.

We have one coach who has coached an elite roster (on paper) here at A&M in the last 26 years and you guys think we are cursed, will never win, and we have done all we can do to win. It's kind of sad to see. Maybe it ends up being right, but it's' not like we have had top 5 rosters with Sherman, Fran, Sumlin, and failed with multiple coaches.

If you dig into it more, I bet some of you would be shocked to find out that Fran, Sherman, and Sumlin never had a team ranked above 10 in the college team talent rankings. In fact, Fran and Sherman were never top 10. Sumlin was only top 10 once, and that was right at 10. We have only tried 2 coaches in the sec. Both had some red flags coming in. Believe it or not, a 13-18 ranked roster like Sumlin had most years translates to 8-5 or 9-4 in the sec, which is exactly what we got.

We have tried the elite rosters thing with one coach. That coach also happened to greatly underachieve at FSU his final 3.5 years there, too. He failed. Now we are cursed.

Now, all of that said, clearly our administration has made major mistakes and has holes in it. You don't go 8-5 every year without something being at fault behind the scenes. But again, a big part of is is consistently overrating our talent. Look at the NFL draft. We put out 3-4 every year. The teams that win 10+ put out 8-10. Teams that put out 3-4 go 8-5 more often than win 10. Simple as that.

QB was far from our biggest issue in 2024. We can win a ton of games with Reed, if the team around him is built up. That's what Ohio State does. They don't depend on a QB to be their savior. They build up an entire roster around the QB and the QB becomes plug and play. Makes it easy on their QB. Our QBs have been in very difficult overall situations for multiple years running with their OL, WRs, defense, etc.

Reed is better than this board gives credit for. He can actually throw really well. Now, his progression and going through his reads are very much in question. He needs to improve there. But he can throw a better ball than Leonard and arguably Howell, too.

Except for JFF, what makes you think aTm can land a top tier, all time great QB. History says otherwise. Athletes today are all about what's hot, now.

You know what is always hot? Money. Pay somebody. Not a freaking cornerback. Pay a freaking quarterback. The formula is pretty simple.

You better pay for an OLine and some weapons before you shell out your megabucks for a QB.
There's not a QB on the planet that'll be effective under constant duress and with dog**** options to throw to.

Right now he plays like a really young QB. Because he is.
Needs time, needs reps, needs to let the game slow down for him. The longer he played, the better he got.
You could tell early on that he'd get in a hurry and glaze over things, then just default to his athleticism and his feet to bail himself out.

That can work sometimes when you're the best athlete on the field, kinda like his high school days.
That might work a little bit in college, but not against the better teams.
Let's hope he learns to actually be a QB.

You're right though, any QB....whether it's here, or OhSt, or wherever....is gonna greatly benefit from being surrounded by a good team, particularly at OLine, but also with legit skill position players also.
