Believe it or not, top 5 or even top 10 classes aren't the norm for us. Jimbo had a nice little 4 year run, but then started to drop off when he started to lose too many games.

LSU is definitely not correct just off first glance. I remember looking that up at the time. At least not per 247 composite.

They had the following 4 classes on campus:

2, 7, 15, 5. Good, solid recruiting, but average 7.25. Not 4.0.

Omitted MIchigan, which is in the 10-15 range.

Omitted Jimbo's FSU team, which was somewhere around 8-10.

Omitted Auburn with Cam Newton, also in the 10-15 range.

Georgia and Bama are the gold standard (and Ohio State). But many teams have won championships with classes close to what we picked up in 2025. It's long past time for us to get there with classes like that. Let's hope for even better in 2026. I hope we get a top 5 haul. Currently 4th in average stars, so that's where it's trending to. But it's a long ways off.

Yes and no regarding Clemson. They did take small classes, but their average star ranking was still outside the top 10 many years, too. It wasn't just because they were small classes. They were well behind the top schools in national top 100 guys, too. Many years they got 4-5, when teams like bama/georgia got 10-15.

They won it because they hit at QB and the LOS. If you are going to win the national title without top 2-3 classes like Bama/Georgia/Ohio State, it is almost always a team that has NFL QBs and lineman.

So far, we need to hope we hit on at least one of Hart or Casuga, and that the lineman we picked up end up being NFL guys.
