How long do you want to ignore this user?
Look im gonna keep it brief i love A&M and the A&M athletics but after High school, I wasn't able to attend A&M though and had to work from the day I walked that stage of HS graduation. but can I be a Fan in this fanbase?

We rip on TU all the time for Tshirt fans but it doesn't seem like they have any in-fighting

what does getting a degree make me a better fan of A&M?

Aggies welcome T-Shirt fans.

as we should if we want to compete with TU we need every fan on board to beat them sometimes I feel this fanbase is too closed off to the non student route

The only problem with T-shirt fans is when they become insufferable doiche bags…

You can be a fan of whoever you want for literally any reason and are as much of a fan as anyone else. But the reason why 'T-shirt' fans from TU, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, etc. get berated is more about the glory hunting aspect of it. These are historically great teams and, from my personal experience, the non-alumni TU fans I know hadn't really talked much about it before the last two years. IMO, being a fan at all of a team like A&M is tough and if you didn't go there and chose them without any financial tether to the university, more power to you and I'm sorry lol.

My only issue with fans are fair weather fans.

Had 4 guys from Boston sit next to me at the LSU game this year. They decided years ago that they wanted to visit every college stadium and their first road trip was to Kyle Field. After that first trip they shut down their idea to visit all stadiums and attend one Aggie game at Kyle every season.

They have no ties to Texas, A&M, CS, George Bush, the corps, etc. They're as t-shirt as you can get and you can tell they proudly rep and love A&M. I really wish I would have grabbed their numbers for their future visits, as they seemed like solid dudes. Well that and I'm planning a trip to New England this summer and it would be cool to have a tour guide.

Don't confuse being a fan with a being a "tshirt" fan.

T shirt fans pretty much end their allegiance at the t shirt... and can switch as fast as they change shirts.

I used to work with a guy who ordered t-shirts from all 4 of the teams that made the final 4, so he could go to the bars and celebrate in the t-shirt of whichever team won the championship.

That was a t-shirt fan.

My Dad never stepped in a classroom at Texas A&M, but he was a more loyal maroon blood than most I have ever met. He also sent all 3 sons to A&M, and so far 4 of his grandchildren.

Not a "tshirt" fan.

And we rip on tshirt sip fans because they are annoying condescending *****s.

Welcome aboard but you should have to sign a waiver that you know what you are getting yourself into. As you can tell from the offseason angst going on right now there are some longtime Aggies who appear to be having some buyers remorse these days.

Yep. Maybe my next degree needs to come from Georgia or Ohio State.

This. Glory hunting is annoying. Look at the average tu fans twitter profile and they claim to be fans of the horns, Yankees/dodgers, and Lakers. Then they run their mouth when they're winning but nary a peep when they suck.

That one Jehovah's Witness horn account is so ****ing funny. He is a : Cowboys, Long Horns, Lakers, Yankees fan because 'that's what his dad is' and it's like congrats man you AND your dad are losers.

It's real weird. But it's always the same teams. Makes you wonder if those guys just were perpetual losers growing up and just latched on to something that made them feel successful.

I welcome all fans and in some ways I appreciate fans who did not go to A&M even more than fans who did.

As a rule, I do not bag on on anyone for being a fan of arrival school if they did not attend there. I think that is just pompous.

The one and only exception to that rule is if they actually talk **** about A&M as a school.

The question I have is why would anyone willingly be a fan of A&M if they didn't go here? It's hard being an Aggie these days. All that said, our t shirt fans deserve respect because they're tough sons of guns to not jump ship.

Most people get fandom forced on them by parents or spouses who are obsessively obsessed with their favorite teams.

I think this topic comes up so much on Texags because so many fans here are 2nd or 3rd generation Ags who started running for Yell Leader in kindergarten and got engaged to their first crush under the Century Tree.

For others of us, it's not uncommon to get dragged along with our dads' obsessions.

It's funny you mention that, the whole reason I became an Aggie in the first place was to make my dad mad. I come from a long line of red raiders and going to A&M was my big F you.

However, I was just joking about wondering why anyone would become an Aggie, just like I joke when I say the only happy Ag is a miserable Ag.

I gotcha, I was just speculating about why on Earth this topic has been done so many times on this board, whenI almost never see anyone on other message boards care who's a fan at other schools. I guess it can sometimes seem like a lot of people believe Maroon is an actual blood type and patrilineal trait.

*and people make fun of tshirt or "sidewalk" fans at other schools too; I don't know why it's such a big deal for TexAgs.

I'm ok with the ones who act like doiche bags as I don't know what that is...now ****** bags are a problem, for sure.

I have always promoted us welcoming T-shirt fans, from the standpoint that if they purchase and wear A&M clothing, hats, etc. it is a fantastic way of promoting A&M.

Aggie T-shirt fans are a different breed than the sip T-shirts fans. Like my boss is a t-shirt fan of the school in Austin and is one of the most obnoxious people to be around when good ol sips are winning.

The ones I find annoying are the sip t-shirt fans that went to other schools (Texas State. Sam Houston, SFA, ect,) and never stepped one foot on the 40 acers in their life.

The only part of the tshirt fan that annoys me is the ones supporting opposing schools, yet weren't smart enough to get into said school, but will rub their superiority of their pretend school in your face. And they're serious and too dumb to see the irony.

I've been a t-shirt Aggie since the 80's. I'm 44. I literally couldn't care less about acceptance. Plus, I live in Arkansas, so Aggies around here just appreciate me adding to the numbers in the area. Aggies who belittle fans who didn't go to school at A&M, are narrow minded idiots. Nothing you can do or say can change that. Just keep your loyalty. Gig 'Em!

Some of you are too young to have been a part of the 'rivalry' back when tu was on top of the world, like 2005. The tshirt fans were insufferable. There was no fun banter or interesting discussion of college football. It was just 'F the Aggies' and 'Aggies suck'. The more longhorn crap they had on their car, the less likely they went to school there. That is when the term tshirt sip really came into use on texags.

You do seem correct in that the sips don't seem to mind it or care. Maybe they are just numb to it.

There is in-fighting among fans of every big-time school when things are not going well.

Dad is an Aggie and made me go with him to all the Corps reunions when I was growing up. I remember first going to Kyle field circa 1998. You can call me a T-shirt fan all you want, but TAMU means more than football to me.

This. People are too sensitive about the term.

It refers to these mouth breathers who don't just chirp about sports. They see your Aggie shirt and then insult the school, tell you all the traditions are for losers, call you a sheep fv#@3!r, and wave their horns in your face. Meanwhile they spent 1 semester at a community college but make tu sports their whole identity.

That's the t-shirt horn fan and it's 90% of the loudest mouths you encounter. If that's not you as an Aggie fan, then realize it's not you and move on.
