None of this is a slam against Marcel, but I put us just above Auburn at the QB position over the last 5 years.

I honestly thought we would build from Mond. Turns out, Mond delivered much better than any QB since.

The days of blaming a coach from more than 2 years ago for today's performances are over now that NIL rules the roost. It's so easy to pay for a top notch QB if you want to change horses. That worked before it was so easy to switch schools.

Reed didn't do himself any favors tipping off run or pass by his stance.

Weigman was the consensus better prospect. Hindsighy is 20/20…

Apparently he wasn't the better performer in fall camp according to much of the team.

Oh well, it was year 1 and Elko felt a responsibility to play the qb who was getting the big money. I'm fine with it. Excited Reed is the guy now.

Incorrect. Klubnik was offered before Weigman. but Weigman committed immediately when offered.

According to the best information we have, Jimbo offered both Klubnik and Weigman, intending to take one QB. A first-come, first-served basis.

Weigman committed first, so that's who Jimbo took.

Klubnik is listed as the top returning QB for 2025, but he's not really an amazing college QB in the vein of Jayden Daniels or Bryce Young. Klubnik has struggled heavily at times in the Clemson offense even though he's a veteran of 3 years in that system. If we didn't let Weigman get destroyed by unblocked defenders, he'd probably look at least as good as Klubnik.

The Reed vs O'Neill battle will be interesting as it's generation 3 (ish) of the QBs Jimbo recruited from HS. Elko and Klein's first QB is gonna be the Slenderman, Brady Hart, and the first task for him is to eat a dang sandwich.

Not exactly correct. We wanted Weigman every bit as much as Klubnik. Maybe more according to some (and no, not just homers). Timing of the offer doesn't always tell the tale. One was a legacy.

Weigman had stud film. No one could have predicted who would become the better of the two in college. They were literally 1A/1B for just about everyone recruiting texas QBs that year.

In fact, I'd say that Weigman post 2022 and even pre-injury 2023 was looking better. That injury along with Jimbo, a scheme change, etc., screwed him over. He could have been special under the right circumstances. No guarantee Jimbo and that OL wouldn't have ruined Klubnik, too.

Haynes King turned out to be a pretty good QB, but we did nothing to play to his strengths.

Lol. Reed did nothing last year to show that he is "legit". Maybe he ends up being a great QB, but it's still very much a question mark right now.

I wouldn't say he did "nothing". I would also say he has more to prove. Depends on your definition of legit. Some think of it as elite. Some think of it as a proven, solid player.

He was 5th in QBR in the sec last year. That's basically top 3rd. He's a proven solid player. Needs to prove more to show he can be elite.

Marcel Reed has proven to be a solid quarterback, but he needs to increase his accuracy (61.3% last season) and his touchdown to interception (15 to 6 last season) ratio.

I can only think of three QBs that had any meaningful success at the school they transferred to - Kyler Murray, Kenny Hill, and Haynes King.

That's probably near his ceiling based on his HS stats.

Jimbo's recruiting of QBs wasn't the problem.

The problem was that the "QB Whisperer" sucked at developing his QB recruits.

You know who is also in many of the top 10-15 returning QB lists? Haynes King.

Isn't he about 37 years old now?
