I really don't want to hear about how women's and Olympic sports are at risk when he is forking over millions and millions to red Raider football both to the program and NIL directly when he could just as easily just donate to the U for facilities but then support all the women's and Olympic sports with the NIL $$ he is throwing out for football.


What's the end-game here? My take is that he is trying to get equal TV $$ for all CFB programs as his beloved Texas Technical lags way behind SEC mad B1G teams for conference TV revenue and 3rd tier rights. He wants it to be like the NFL where all teams get the same $$, which would mean North Texas, not just Technical, gets the same amount of TV $$ as Alabama, Ohio State, aTm, Penn State, etc.

This reek of an ulterior motive to help matador football, not women's and Olympic sports….

He aint going bankrupt....lol, its funny how the money spigot for mens football is being driven by about 30 teams. Everyone wants some of that money. Really need to create a super football conference only for the big teams. Then do their dei money share conference for everyone else.

No s*** Sherlock. IMHO none of the women's and Olympic sports should not even exist in college athletics. It should be football, men's basketball, maybe women's basketball. Everything else is a $$ loser and a drain that just makes football donations and tickets more expensive (yes I know a few baseball teams break even or make a small profit).

Maybe to him, me and others on this site and many like it, but I call BS on that. I think he is conflating NFL football with football in general. IF that was true then the TV $$ would already be much higher for CFB than the NBA, as would be average coach salary and cost of commercials, etc. Companies market and advertise where the eyeballs and interest are. TV pays broadcast contact $$ where the eyeballs and interest are. I'm not buying that argument that CFB is the #2 sport, though it certainly is #1 for me and in my house.

So, I guess his desired goal is to get legislation enacted that allows the NCAA, or some other body, to take back control over college sports, and sell it as a package like back in the old days, but presumably for more money. Oh, and, by the way, this new organization would probably pay schools like Tech as much as SEC and Big Ten schools.

I'm ok with his sentiment and agree mostly. I didn't pay attention to the ads and their message, but figure it's not easy to ascertain. I don't like NIL and all the other mess, it's made me really take a step back from college football, but im glad my school is a player in that space. Doesn't mean I have to like it agree with it. And some legislative change to make it somewhat like before I would support.

I still like that with the exception of the top level football schools, and a few basketball schools, the majority of college athletes are scholar athletes, and using their athletic prowess to give the, an opportunity they might not otherwise have to get a top level education.

My thought on it, and it probably wouldn't be very favorable to most, is take the college level back how it was across the board. No NIL, sit out for transfers, etc. Players be actual student athletes. If they want to get paid, they can go pro. There will no longer be any blockades from going pro, even straight out of high school, like basketball was/is. If you think you can be an NFL player out of high school, go for it. But once you make that leap, college is no longer an option. If you wash out of the NFL, have fun going back home and digging ditches. You had your chance, took a bet on yourself, and lost. It won't happen all the time, but it will happen. But if you want to play college ball, there will be rules. You are king of the campus, you can have covered meal plans, get all the free team gear you can stuff your paid for closet with, but you have to make your grades, and you have to stick it out. It's a voluntary thing. You don't have to do it, you have the option to bet on yourself, you just have to live with results of the choice you make, good or bad.

SEC &'Big10 wouid never go for that

But he is angling to get tech more money & perhaps a seat at the big boy table if a "super league" develops. Im not certain one will, but Campbell is putting all his cards in hoping it does

Yes, he's as full of BS as Campbell.

The Big Ten, SEC, and other P4 schools are lobbying Congress right now to pass legislation that would, among other things, give a limited anti-trust exemption in order to fully implement the House settlement. The House settlement represents a huge step forward for players, but media folks like Florio are always waiving the union flag and cheering on anything that they see as undermining the capitalists. It happens every time there is a potential work stoppage in any sport.

Campbell is trying to go further than the legislation intended to implement House and turn back the clock to the point where one entity negotiates all college football television rights, so that every member of that entity (read, Texas Tech) gets the same share as every other.

I'm not a fan of unions but it is the simplest way to solve the problem of the NCAA and its member institutions impoverishing themselves…

Olympic sports are about to get pushed off the CFB gravy train and it's long overdue. There is a reason there isn't a huge TV contract for Olympic sports. It's time they started operating within their own means and not freeloading off football. Where was all this outrage when football coaches were being paid.

Maybe so, but the Sherman Act has been on the books for what, a century and a half (Sen. Sherman was the brother of William Tecumseh Sherman)? Little bit late to argue for that now.
