Anybody that thinks Sherman got done dirty doesnt truly remember having to sit through all those choke jobs in 2011

No question. Sherman deserved to be fired. Maybe not necessarily over the phone while on a recruiting trip, but whatever. He absolutely had to go.

Bellard. By light years. He hired Slocum from KState. He also hired Mad Dog. Those 2 set the standard for defense at A&M.

Wouldn't mind having Sherman back on the staff for either recruit evals or o line.

He's the one coach who left the team better than he got it.

His firing is why Tannehill wants nothing to do with A&M as his alma mater.
Thats okay. Tanney was a better receiver than QB and a better QB than medical doctor…

Coaches are, in corps terms, in the middle of the chain of command. Players should respect a coaching change but he keeps it to himself so I don't mind the chip on his shoulder.

Say what you will, but Tannehill made it to the NFL for some time. It's a blight on how A&M handled that firing. It was ****ty. And maybe we got some karma with Sumlin without JFF/Kingsbury to save him.

Hmm. Maybe. Was it all the Oline going to the NFL or the change to Spav that was different in 2013?

Bellard was a good man. I played in a golf tournament for a few years that he played in. Multi-day tournament with parties at night. I was able to be around him on multiple occasions and he couldn't have been nicer to this Old Ag who was a little bit starstruck. I was at A&M when he was head coach.

My Dad (Class of '50) and Gene Stallings were pretty good friends during his time at A&M and later in Paris.

I also had two good friends who played for him..
Grady Allen and Keith Rice…

One practice story I remember being told…
Young Ag soph backup D-Lineman beats the #1 offensive guard on a play… Does it again…

Stallings comes over and sternly tells the offense to keep running that damn play until the guard can "WHIP that sophomore"…

After about 4 attempts, the sophomore was so beat up, he learned not to make that mistake again…

Gene was an enigma to me… Pretty no-nonsense…
Really nice guy away from football…

Defensive guy through and through… Softened after working for Tom Landry…
